The thing about change is that it is never easy, but it is necessary for growth. I think all of us may have a hard time with change and letting go. The things we know are comfortable, but letting go and allowing change in is a scary thing.
For all of us change comes in varying degrees. It could be as simple as letting go of old clothes or as big as letting go of people. It could be learning about yourself and the way you’ve changed or getting past the comfort of the things that you’ve always known.
For the people of the Brewster household, it’s all of these things.
With Izzy, there has already been a lot of change brought about in the house. But the rest of the kids are about to face various challenges with change as Punky asks them to gather things that they can donate for the rummage sale at the group home.
Daniel is excited to let things go and get rid of junk. Hannah is just in her element of bossing people around and acting way too old for her age. Diego wants to help, but doesn’t – he’s just gotten used to the way things are.
But Punky encourages them all to donate. Cherie needs their help and the kids need their help.
Izzy wants to help, but she doesn’t have much to donate. Punky says that it is the thought that counts, and it truly is. Izzy however, wants to contribute, so she gives a finger turkey that she made Punky.
At the rummage sale is going well, but Diego can’t let go of his stuff. He’s a full on hoarder. Everytime someone picks up all of the stuff that is his, he pulls it away from them and puts it on over his clothes.
I am not sure what it is with people not being able to let go of stuff, but then again, I have a closet full of clothes that I can’t seem to part with. Daniel and Hannah keep telling him that he needs to let shit go, but he doesn’t want to. Letting go is not easy, but sometimes letting go of things is just what we need.
Izzy on the other hand is ready to move everything. She is quite the little sales person and is talking everyone into buying stuff. She makes a deal with a guy to buy a shirt for five bucks, but when Hannah goes to collect the money, he says he will pay two bucks. Here comes Izzy again to tell him what’s up.
She looks at him, points to the kids in the room and asks him to choose which one of the kids isn’t going to eat that night. Damn Izzy, you savage. But hey, sometimes you need to pull out all the stops.
As Izzy says, if you don’t know who the sucker is – it’s you.
Punky on the other hand is having a tough time moving on. Personally, I think that she is still having feelings for Travis, but I also know that we don’t know enough about their relationship to figure it out. She’s trying to move on and is attracted to this musician that she’s doing a photo shoot for.
Jason is cute, but he’s also like an old man who needs to retire his leather pants kind of cute. He’s got good hair, but that’s about it. He’s a horrible flirt, but Punky likes the fact that she’s being flirted with.
And so when he invites her to a show, she’s excited. Her and Cherie put on their best, go out and are thrilled with themselves that they have stayed up past nine. I can so get this, because eightish is a good time for bed.
Jason’s pulling out all the stops, but that’s not always a positive thing. When he dedicates a song to Punky, she’s thrilled. Until he starts to perform. Cause hey, his guitar face is not an attractive thing. It looks like he’s getting electrocuted and doing duck lips at the same time. And if that’s his performance face – I dread thinking what his sex face could be like.
Cause no.
Punky can’t forget it either and when they are hanging out and he goes in for a kiss, all she can see is his performance face. And it’s not a good thing. She doesn’t know how to let him down easily, so she drops the hammer. She tells him that she can’t – that she’s moving to fast, because she realizes that she still has feelings for Travis.
Now as much as I want to believe that this is true – because I am Team Trucky (I don’t know their ship but this is what I am going with).
Izzy may not be Travis’s biggest fan, but I do believe that she really likes him. I think that she’s apprehensive about liking Travis – as if it betrays her father. Izzy wants to hold onto the memories she has of her parents.
And when she looses her beanie she freaks out. Why? Because it’s the last thing that she can remember her father giving her.
That’s super important – memories. Memories are what shape us and when your life that you know is taken from you, I can see wanting to hold onto what you know.
Everyone is chipping in to try and find the hat, but it’s nowhere to be found. Izzy accuses Travis, but he says he didn’t take the hat, however, she is right when she says that’s what someone who took that hat would see. He swears he didn’t take it though.
And he didn’t. Travis may not be with Punky, but you can see that he really likes Izzy and it doesn’t matter that Punky and him aren’t together. He’d still be there for Izzy too.
The kids though – they want Izzy to feel loved and to not loose something that means so much to her. So they buy a hat and they try to make it like the one that she lost. I mean honestly, I am impressed with Diego’s skills.
Izzy doesn’t tell them that she knows that it isn’t her hat. She smiles and takes the hat. It means a lot to her that they tried so hard to do something for her.
Her Dad’s hat had his name on the inside, which is how she knows that it is a fake. At that point, the dog comes out and has Izzy’s hat in her mouth.
It’s much better for Izzy as Punky tried everything she could to make Izzy happy, but it turns out Izzy isn’t a Cubs fan and the whole taping over the Cubs house that Punky gave her – well, that’s enough to make Punky not a happy camper. She’s a Cubs fan for life.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- Diego is such a boy and ewww on the stomach salsa. But when Punky takes a bite of the salsa and it’s got gum – I almost puked.
- Hannah has great fashion and her taking her Dads clothes and distressing them made me smile. Giving life to clothes and giving her Dad a heart attack at the same time.
- Travis finding out from Jason that Punky said he still had feelings for him – I die. I was like please have feelings and get back together.
- I love seeing Izzy get closer with the family.
- Punky and Cherie’s “mutual appreciation” moments are life.
- I love Izzy calling Hannah her BFF and telling her to bring it in.
- Seriously, retire the leather pants Jason.
