You can sit in shock as I am about to say some good things about the shit show that is Country Comfort. Is the world ending? I thought so. Maybe I drank something bad or ate something bad. I don’t have a fucking clue.
But we finally had an episode that was half way decent? I mean who the fuck knows.
Beau apparently is off his gluten free, dairy free, soy free whatever that Summer had him on. And I don’t blame him – there is nothing wrong with sugar (though I don’t eat it and would kill for a donut). He’s upset and he’s emotionally eating.
See, his wife’s mare – he has to replace her because she is no longer able to reproduce and that is the way that they make their money. But Melody, she’s one of the last things that they have from their Mom and Beau has from his wife.
Bailey may be annoying as fuck, but she does have a big heart. Sure she talks a mile a minute and makes my head spin. But she is worried about a lot – keeping her job and making sure that everyone in the family is okay. However, she is worried about Beau and wants to make sure that he’s okay. But you can’t help someone who doesn’t want to be helped.
Cassidy tells him that he told her that she has to deal with her feelings and he again reiterates that he is fine. But thou does protest too much.
The men in this family may be kind of clueless, because they are all very self involved. While Beau is asking for a name for the horse, Brody is upset. He’s at that age where he’s discovering girls and he has to deal with his older brother who gets all the girls and steals all of the attention away from him.
Brody is a cute kid and maybe it is just that I don’t remember puberty, but I am like LORD. Stop whining. Cassidy is trying to cheer him up and reminds him that his best friend is returning from France.
Jo, is apparently like his bro-friend. Only she’s a girl. She’s one of the guys to Brody and he’s excited that she’s coming back but he wants a girlfriend. Not a girl who is a friend.
The lucky thing for Brody is that everyone is drawn back to Beau every five minutes because he’s over there having a nervous breakdown. Sure he was the one eating all the donuts, but his “being okay” makes him lash out at Bailey and remind her not to buy so much sugar.
Day is going on and Brody is still pouting. Cassidy, the smart ass that she is, reminds him that pouting on the couch doesn’t help. Chloe is trying to get him off that couch and reminds him that Jo is coming back and she wants to know when. Of course, this reminds him to lash out about wanting a girlfriend, not a friend. Beau reminds him that Jo was a good friend and that he needs to appreciate that.
Brody is over this shit and wants to get the horse. After all, he knows that is a girl that will come home with him. But shocker, he opens the door and Jo is there. She’s really pretty and Bailey’s like that’s the girl that was like a brother to you. He’s like she didn’t look like that when she left. Cassidy is first to recognize her.
Cute little Chloe just wants presents. Brody is tripping over his words and it’s kind of cute as you watch him try to say what is on his mind and he can’t. Brody is stumbling over words. He is enamored over her.
He’s embarrassed and runs to his room. Bailey goes to talk to him and I can appreciate the way she tries to explain young love to him. Dawson’s Creek and the relationship with Joey and Dawson is a guide book on how to not have a relationship. Sorry, not sorry – I am team Pacey.
Bailey says he should tell Jo how she feels. Brody said never had a problem talking to her before. He says he missed the window when she was best friends, totally out of league. Brody says he can’t talk to girls. Bailey says he should sing his feelings out.
Bailey needs to learn to keep her mouth shut. Long story short – she drops hints to Jo that someone likes her, and she thinks that Jo likes Brody, but finds out that she likes Tucker. And the thing that I can admire is that Bailey goes to throw herself under the bus with Beau, cause you know she did wrong. She should have just kept her mouth shut in the beginning.
And then Brody comes down and sings this song that he wrote for Jo, and it’s adorable. Bailey and Beau are fighting over who is gonna tell him what Jo said and I don’t envy either one of them. Who wants to crush someones heart?
Answer? Brothers. Sure, it’s unknowing, but Dylan and Tucker arrive back at the worst time and
Dylan tells them Jo asked Tucker out. Brody is crushed and as usual Tucker is oblivious. Bailey tells him that Brody likes Jo and Tucker makes this big show about how he’s gonna back off. But Tucker, as we all know – is ruled by his want to make out with every girl known to mankind.
Bailey tells Beau everything is fine. She brought out forget about it lemonade – which sounds like something I need because it’s strong. Beau doesn’t want to talk about it – he doesn’t want to talk about anything. Shocker (that’s sarcasm) – Bailey breaks into song. Beau keeps telling her that he’s fine and Bailey continues to be over dramatic. He yells at her and finally she stops and says he’s ok.
She keeps saying she knows – but she doesn’t know. He tells her she doesn’t know how hard it is – he breaks down that she doesn’t know what it’s like to lose your best friend. She lets him speak and tells him he’s a great Daddy.
Bailey finally starts making sense when she tells him that there is more. She tells him that he’s been consumed making sure kids are okay and that he hasn’t taken the time to grieve himself. It’s now his time to allow himself to feel. She is there, she loves the kids and she’s gonna be there and he can take time for himself.
He says she’s the worst nanny ever, but she’s got a heart the size of Texas. It is a moment that allows him to let down his walls and let his kids know that he hasn’t been okay, but he will be.
And I think that’s a big moment, because the kids know that they don’t have to be strong for him.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- Is this family in Texas or Tennessee? Cause I feel like the implications of where they are changes everyday.
- Bailey needs to stop breaking into song every five seconds. This show isn’t American Idol. We get it girl, you can sing.
- Chloe may be the best thing about this show.
- We finally find out their ranch is called Harmony Hills. Shouldn’t we have found out that shit awhile ago.
- The fact that anyone is shocked that they caught Tucker making out with Jo at the end is well…
