We are getting closer and closer to Netflix’s Shadow and Bone so we’ve been doing some posts to help you get to know the actors. As most Shadow and Bone fans know, Ben Barnes is playing General Kirigan. For those of you who are unfamiliar with him and just why he is the perfect choice for this role, allow us to give you 5 of his roles that you should check out.
Dorian Gray

In Dorian Gray, Ben plays the title role and he is pure perfection. Dorian starts off as a sweet young man and then he completely changes. The reason we recommend checking this one out is because Dorian Gray and General Kirigan are little similar in some ways. Both Dorian and General Kirigan are consumed with some sort of power. Dorian Gray is extremely charismatic and so is General Kirigan. They are both master manipulators and Ben is able to showcase that so well.
The Punisher

Bens role in The Punisher is one of our favorites because it really showed how talented he is. The range he has was apparent in the transformations he went through while playing Billy Russo in season one and two. We have always said that Ben Barnes has an incredible ability to convey many different emotions and The Punisher definitely required that. Watching him go from a sexy, conniving, guy in season one to a broken man suffering from a severe traumatic brain injury and some major PTSD in season two, was captivating.
The Punisher is available to stream on Netflix.
Sons of Liberty

In Sons of Liberty, Ben Barnes plays Sam Adams, one of the Founding father’s of the United States. This is another role that we think you should check out because it showcases his ability to play a leader. He commands attention onscreen and he’s one of the main reasons we watched this series. Doesn’t hurt that he looks good in the costumes too.
Sons of Liberty is available to stream on Hulu.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

We’ve already told you we love us some Ben Barnes in The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. In The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, he’s no longer Prince Caspian, he’s King Caspian and that’s some royalty we can get behind. The Narnia films were Ben’s first major roles and he was amazing in both of them. Ben’s done a lot of fantasy films so he’s no stranger to the genre which is why these movies are a great choice.
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is available to stream on Disney+
Gold Digger

We’re closing out this list with Gold Digger because we think this role does a good job of making you not only question the motives of Bens character Benjamin, it also makes you question yourself. Benjamin is a young man who falls for an older woman. The storyline sounds simple enough but the entire time you watch the show and look at his behaviors it makes you question if his intentions are good or bad. If you have read Shadow and Bone then you get that this is also something that happens as you read more and more about General Kirigan.
Fun fact; Ben Barnes and his Shadow and Bone co-star Archie Renaux who plays Mal, worked together on Gold Digger and like their characters in Shadow and Bone, they did not get along.
Gold Digger is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
Which of these roles will you be watching while you wait for Shadow and Bone? tell us in the comments.
