Season finale! With Chicago Party Aunt 1×08 “Emergency Contact” we end the first part of the season while we go to Christmas party … with a tremendously unexpected twist. Time for review!
Here we go!
As we discussed in the previous episode, when you have so many plans in one day either you are not really in any of them or they are all canceled. The latter is what happens to Diane in Chicago Party Aunt 1×08 “Emergency Contact.” It’s Christmas Eve and it seems that she has a night full of plans with all her family and friends but, as is often the case at Chicago Party Aunt, nothing goes the way it has to go out.
In the end, Diane finds herself alone on that special night and she has never felt lonely but, for the first time, she feels that everyone has their own life, their own plans … except her. She feels stagnant.
I don’t really understand this decision to leave Diane alone on Christmas Eve in Chicago Party Aunt 1×08 “Emergency Contact.” I mean, I don’t think her family had bad intentions because they didn’t want to create tension and Diane told them that she was fine and had plans but… Diane always says that she is fine. They had to have seen over that.
But the point is, they don’t, and when the past knocks on her door, she has nothing better to do than respond to the call. She needs to go see the bastard of her ex-husband because it is an episode in her past that she has not closed, she never knew why and she could never tell some things to that asshole.
But when he apologizes and they begin to remember together… she softens. Diane had many crazy and good times with him. Much of her best years and in this moment that she feels so alone she needs to remember, she needs to feel that it was not always this way.
In fact, Diane surprised me in Chicago Party Aunt 1×08 “Emergency Contact” because this prick left her without an explanation and yet she still gives him a second chance, believes in him, in his regret and agrees to take care of him later of his operation.
But cocoons never, ever, change and he’s no exception and when he shows his true face, Diane finally confronts him and tells him all the truths, the truths that the truths she never managed to tell him.
We all have a weak point, a person we want to confront and say so many things to … but when we are in front of that person, we simply cannot do it and we allow ourselves to be convinced with beautiful words … until in the end we react and get out of that vicious and toxic circle. That’s what Diane does in Chicago Party Aunt 1×08 “Emergency Contact.”
In another vein, Diane begins Chicago Party Aunt 1×08 “Emergency Contact” with the feeling that she’s alone but when everyone thinks that she’s in the hospital because something has happened to her, absolutely everyone has stopped what they were doing to go to her side.
Even Gideon has done it because Diane may be a pain in the ass for him but if he thinks something has happened to her, he’s the first to check that she’s okay. He needs her to fight every day.
