This week’s 9-1-1 had some interesting cases revolving social media and reality television. This lead some of our favorites to question their life choices. There was also a terrible tragedy this week which we’re still not over.
Marriage at First Sight
One of the things that this show does really well is mixing in humor to help with tragedy. The last few episodes have been missing that comic relief, and we’re happy that “FOMO” had some lighter cases. We couldn’t stop laughing at the bride and groom who were getting married on a TV show and had never met each other. The bride didn’t want to end of like her sister: middle aged and single. Her sister is 32. That’s not exactly middle aged.
Unfortunately for her, the groom has a rare and serious medical condition that causes him to collapse before they say their vows. Hen’s able to save his life, but because of his health issues, he’s no longer a candidate for the show and can’t get married. But the bride didn’t let that stop her. She just married someone else. We kind of think he dodged a bullet there.
Mid-Life Crisis?
One of the other cases this week revolved a social media influencer who was living a fake life. We felt bad for the girl after she fell into the sauna and had third degree burns to her face. But we didn’t have a lot of sympathy for the lies she told.
This leads May to talk about her life choices with her mom and Eddie. It’s definitely natural to wonder about what your life could have been. Even making one different choice could change your life forever. This makes us wonder if May will go to USC next season. We like having her at the call center, and she’s really good at it, but she’s so young. We can’t blame her for wanting to go to college.
Karen also struggles as she realizes her life isn’t as exciting as her co-workers. She doesn’t regret her life choices: she worked really hard to accomplish her career goals, but she didn’t get to have much of a social life in her 20s. We can relate. It’s hard getting older. But she did get to have an exciting adventure when she and Hen tracked down the lady who stole their credit cards. That was fun!
A Mom Says Goodbye
Yes, “FOMO” did have some lighter cases, but this show still knows how to rip out your heart. When a mom falls through the earth, she knows she’s not going to make it. She wants to talk to her girls and say goodbye to them before she dies.
Hen and the rest of the 118 make sure she gets to say what she needs to over the radio. This was so heartbreaking especially after one daughter asks why the sirens aren’t on. The oldest daughter, who had already figured out their mom didn’t make it, said “Mom doesn’t need them.” Excuse us while we go cry.
Other Thoughts
- We enjoyed May and Eddie’s conversations this week. These two haven’t spent a lot of time together, but it was nice. We hope to see more of this in the last few episodes of season five.
- The social media influencer story is a good reminder for us all that what you see on Instagram, Facebook, etc. isn’t always real. People put their best moments on social media, and you never see the entire story.
- How cute were Maddie and Chim with Jee-Yun at the end of the episode?
- We couldn’t help but laugh when Buck stuck his foot in his mouth by basically calling Karen and Hen middle aged.
What did you think about “FOMO”? We’ve love to hear!
