We’re here for another week! The Rookie 4×21 “Mother’s Day” brings back the best of our favorite show. Chenford finally slams their fist on the table and begins to take shape as the episode shows that positions of power should only be for those who care. Time for a review!
Here we go!
CHENFORD IS ON FIRE!
Chenford plays with fire in The Rookie 4×21 “Mother’s Day” and they’re about to burn. Lucy doesn’t feel able to commit too much to Chris… that’s why she doesn’t want to meet his mother. Meeting her screams that they’re serious and she feels good about him but she doesn’t feel yet… what it takes for a bigger commitment. Chris, for his part, is ready for more.
Lucy’s counterpart is Tim. I didn’t remember that he was still with Ashley but yes, they were together and planning a vacation. This also screams commitment all over the place and Lucy feels jealous.
She thought that she had gotten over it and that she could ignore what she doesn’t want to feel for Tim, but when she sees him so lovey-dovey with his girlfriend, planning a trip that screams wedding, that prick in her heart came back, and was more intense than ever.

Lucy can’t control her jealousy…so she tries to figure out what’s going on. A part of her is afraid to ask because she knows that Tim’s answer could end up tearing her apart, but another part of her needs to know. Lucy is nothing if she isn’t brave, so she dares to ask Tim what’s going on. And his answer is poison and antidote for her.
On the one hand, the fact that Tim is not planning a wedding with Ashley reassures her, but when he admits that he does see himself married to her, that little momentary calm and joy of hers vanishes.
“ARE YOU READY TO MARRY HER?”
And it’s time to break down Tim’s response in The Rookie 4×21 “Mother’s Day.” Why did he say this? We believe that part of his response is proof that he’s ready for more. Tim has already grieved Isabel and is ready for a real commitment to someone. But is Ashley that “someone”? Definitely not. Before saying yes to Lucy, he glances over at her and takes a moment to reply.
Tim tries to convince himself that Ashley is the right woman to take the step he feels ready to take, but deep down, he knows that the right woman is the one right next to him. However, he still refuses to accept it.

Especially, when he feels that everything with Lucy is taking a more romantic turn (he is aware of Lucy’s looks) and Tim feels that he’s getting out of hand. For this reason, he takes refuge in the easiest and most obvious answer… but also the most unreal one.
He tries to convince himself that a life with Ashley could make him happy, and surely for a while, he would. But Tim would not be truly happy and that relationship would end up failing. Just he can’t see it right now.
DEATH WOUNDS
That said, I don’t worry about Chenford. Both Tim and Lucy are beginning to come to terms with their feelings for each other and Tim’s relationship with Ashley is mortally wounded.
Tim is ready for more…but Ashley made it clear to him that there would never be more. That will end up breaking them up because, apart from Tim’s *yet* unacknowledged feelings for Lucy, they both want different things and are on a different page in the book. In fact, Tim’s face when Ashley told him that she didn’t want to get married said it all.
Tim wasn’t planning on proposing to Ashley right now, but he did need to know there was such a possibility in the future. Now, he already knows that this will not happen… and that will end up precipitating their downfall.
PEOPLE WHO CARE
In The Rookie 4×21 “Mother’s Day” it’s shown, once again, that people who care have to be in positions of power. The prosecutor doesn’t care about anything, that’s why he advocates prosecuting unfair cases with innocent and low-income people. Nolan’s son-of-b*tch boss doesn’t care, so he wants to screw him over just so his male pride doesn’t suffer.

Neither of them cares about people, only the power they have and how to use it for their own benefit. They are both horrible people who may not do anything illegal but they certainly have 0 moral high ground and riffraff like this should never have power.
It frustrates us and we want to hit someone when the opposite happens and these guys are precisely the ones with the most power. That’s why we’re glad that people like Wes decide to step up to have that power. Because he does care.
And people like Wes are the ones needed in positions of power. Perhaps, that’s Nolan’s future? It would be an option…to be in a place where he makes sure that no one else can do what they have done to him in The Rookie 4×21 “Mother’s Day.”
Because if the people in power don’t care, how are things going to change? They can’t.
