Star Wars Celebration isn’t, as the name would suggest, just for Star Wars — the Willow release date and trailer just dropped as part of an overall Lucasfilm studio panel. If you’re not familiar with the 1988 film, you might not have any idea what that is. And maybe you don’t know why you should care about the Willow trailer.
So, this is where we come in. Possibly.
The Disney+ series is a sequel to the aforementioned movie. Which, full disclosure: We were today years old when we heard about it. But we’re still…kind of interested. It’s definitely on our radar, if nothing else. After all, we’re basically here for nerding out.
If you’re are familiar with the original, though, we still have good news. Ron Howard, who directed the movie, is an executive producer for the new series. And, probably most importantly, Warwick Davis is back as Willow Ufgood.
So, what exactly is it all about? The synopsis, so far, isn’t giving much away other than “hey, epic adventure things happen.” But here it is:
“An epic period fantasy series with a modern sensibility set in an enchanted land of breathtaking beauty, ‘Willow’ features a diverse international cast with Jonathan Kasdan, Ron Howard, Wendy Mericle, Kathleen Kennedy, and Michelle Rejwan serving as executive producers. The story began with an aspiring magician from a Nelwyn village and an infant girl destined to unite the realms, who together helped destroy an evil queen and banish the forces of darkness. Now, in a magical world where brownies, sorcerers, trolls, and other mystical creatures flourish, the adventure continues, as an unlikely group of heroes set off on a dangerous quest to places far beyond their home, where they must face their inner demons and come together to save their world.”

Look: As long as the trolls aren’t the “dudebros on twitter” kind, we’re in. Especially considering the Willow trailer features some gorgeous shots.
So, ok. Let’s do this.
Willow release date: You can stream Willow exclusively on Disney+ beginning November 30, 2022.
