Roswell, New Mexico 4×05 “You Get What You Give” gave us the Kybel moment we were finally waiting for and also a few other things. Unfortunately, as is the Roswell, New Mexico standard, we took a few steps back in episode 4×06 “Kiss From A Rose.”
Erase Me

Michael is home sick. Not like he misses home kind of sick. He’s actually sick, sick. In fact, according to Liz he’s got multiple strains of the flu and the common cold. Listen, that sounds like our personal hell. All of this is due to little miss Bonnie who planted a kiss on his lips in Roswell, New Mexico 4×04 “Dear Mama.”
Here we were thinking that she kissed him because she genuinely had feelings for him, but it was all just a way for her to deliver the kiss of…well, not exactly death because Michael isn’t dying even though he feels like he is.
The reason Bonnie kissed Michael really isn’t a good one and it once again leads us back to communication. Everyone in this show needs to learn to open up a bit more. When Bonnie kissed Michael, it disabled his powers, and she says she did it to protect him.
Bonnie felt that Clyde was starting to take advantage of Michael because he found out that he was the savior’s (Jones) son. All this time Michael thought he was successfully manipulating them when in reality Clyde is playing him.
Because Bonnie knows what Clyde can do as well as what Michael can, disabling his powers will keep him from being used by Clyde and Tezca. Despite hearing all this, naturally Michael is extremely upset. So much so that he tells Bonnie she erased him.
Bonnie hasn’t spent enough time with Michael to really understand what having his powers means to him. Michael’s powers are part of who he is, so he feels lost and useless without them. Obviously, we know that Michael is more than just his powers but that’s something he still needs to come to terms with. If she had only talked to Michael about the situation with Clyde, then all of this could have been avoided. She underestimated Michael and his friendship.
Michael is desperate to get his powers back and begs Bonnie to reverse it, but she can’t. Talk about adding insult to injury. We know it’s silly of us to assume that if Bonnie could disable someone’s powers, she could also restore them. It’s called wishful thinking, okay? Anyway, now Michael is pretty much screwed, and we have zero clue how he’s going to get his powers back.
Max’s powers on the other hand are continuing to grow and he’s trying to get used to it. Because he has never been that powerful it scares him. Almost killing Liz in Roswell, New Mexico 4×05 “You Get What You Give” is getting to Max. He can’t focus on anything else so once again broody Max is back.
Since he had to heal her, she’s got his alien handprint on her which we know has linked them together again. That means they can feel what the other feels. That doesn’t help Max’s feelings because even though Liz tells him that everything is okay, he can feel that she’s scared. She reminds him while that is true, she can also feel him too and she knows he’s scared as well.
There’s an upside to them being able to feel each other. While Max has Bonnie in a cell Tezca shows up and they have yet another mini showdown. She’s come to take Bonnie and Max isn’t going to let that happen. He’s able to hold her off but the two of them are both powerful. It seems like Tezca is about to get the upper hand until Liz shows up with her papa’s machete and stabs her with it.
Of course, stabbing Tezca doesn’t take her out that easily. What it does do is still just as effective. It turns out that Liz tipped the machete in Bonnie’s virus which in turn drew Tezca out forcing her to reveal her true self. No more hiding in other people’s skins now. Tezca is pissed and she delivers a warning to Liz and Max that they are both part of Jones’s great plan then she takes off.
Liz and Max still don’t know why everyone keeps telling them that they are both part of Jones’s plan with the alighting. Neither one of them are sure where they fit into it until Max touches Liz’s side with the handprint and it causes an electrical shock of pain. Its then that he realizes their love and not anger is what will trigger his powers. Insert eye roll. Why can’t these two just have a life? Why does every single alien plot come down to them? Its honestly frustrating.
As expected, Liz does her whole, we’ll get through this spiel which Max is hearing none of. He literally just tunes it right out. We still don’t know the alighting is yet, but we know that Liz and Max are part of it, and he doesn’t want that power. I swear, I had an epiphany today, Max is the Jon Snow of Roswell, New Mexico. He’s got that same broody doom and gloom attitude. Like Jon Snow it makes him act impulsively.
Max makes one of the worst decisions ever and it really made us mad. Having so many people depend on him is weighing on him. He doesn’t want to be anyone’s savior and he wants to protect Liz from him and whatever he may become with his new powers. He goes to Bonnie and asks her to be his savior and he has her kiss him to disable his powers.
First of all, we know that the kiss Bonnie gives him means nothing, but it still means something. We don’t give a shit how Max will justify his decision to Liz, that’s cheating. Kissing another person is already bad enough but going behind Liz’s back and doing something like that is a huge deal. He decided for their relationship without even talking about it with Liz. This kind of thing would be called emotional cheating but with physical cheating added in. We said what we said.
Friendzoned

So, we thought we had made great progress with Kybel but no such luck. It was so sweet to see Kyles happy face when he woke up with Isobel in his arms. We were so bummed when she started talking about whether or not them sleeping together would affect their friendship. It was a legit record scratch moment for us. We know it was for Kyle too.
Isobel refers to what they did as “two friends blowing off steam.” Ouch. We hate that Isobel is not able to see or feel how much more she means to Kyle than she realizes. His body language is a dead giveaway. She has to feel it though. There is no way she couldn’t because he does not do well at hiding it. As his feelings have grown, it’s only gotten harder for him to control his emotions.
Being in the friend zone sucks. That is not where Kyle wants to be with Isobel. We do know that her friendship means something to him but he’s in love with her. We knew at some point he would tell her so, but we didn’t expect it to happen in this episode.
It was pretty fitting in Kyle fashion because he’s decided not to waste time anymore. He’s not hiding his feeling from Isobel anymore. His admission that he thinks about her everyday was so sweet. It hurt like hell when she didn’t reciprocate.
Isobel has been burned a few times in her relationships. She’s gone through a lot in the past and it’s made her fearful of opening her heart again and revealing her true feelings. Kyle knows she’s afraid, so he tells her to at least tell him that she feels the same way. When he told her to ask him to wait and she said she couldn’t because it “implies expectations” we could feel Kyles heart breaking.
Other Thoughts

- We’re at episode six and people still don’t know Alex is missing…
- “Use me. That’s what I’m here for.” – Kyle to Isobel.
- Kyle gets a two thumbs way up from Isobel. Way to go sir.
- Glad to see Eduardo isn’t dead and he reunited with his daughter Sonya. But still we say again, when is everyone going to find out Alex is missing?
- Shivani’s got a lot of secrets. Is she just using Liz to save her daughter? We’re sure if she were to actually sit down and talk with Liz about what she’s doing, Liz would be more than willing to help. Why all the deception?
- Look, we love Dallas, and we know he was trying to get Michael to feel better by staying busy but when we get sick, we ain’t trying to do shit. Let us lay on the couch and sleep.
- “How close have you gotten in like a sitting in a room unmasked kind of way?” – Liz to Michael. Subtle nod to Covid-19 guys.
- “Moses had a burning bush but at least the bush talked.” – Dallas to Maria.
- “If you want to cry it out in the passenger seat to Olivia Rodrigo I won’t judge.”- Eduardo to Kyle.
- Still curious about how Dallas and Maria are linked.
- “Eat some soup, watch Judge Mathis like a normal person.” – Maria to Michael.
