Roswell, New Mexico is four episodes into the final season, and we already have a death. If you didn’t figure it out from the title of the episode, the person who died was someone’s mom. That someone who lost their mom is Maria. Yup, that’s right, our poor Maria has had yet another heartbreaking loss. Roswell loves to just rip our hearts out and the seem to always do it with the same people. Roswell, New Mexico 4×04 “Dear Mama” was all about loss and as per the usual, there were some twists.
In Roswell, New Mexico 4×03 “Subterranean Homesick Alien” it ended with Marias mom Mimi going missing. Episode 4×04 “Dear Mama” picks up with Maria and Dallas finding her down on the ground. She’s had a vision and we don’t really know what else happened for her to end up in the state she was in. We have no details about the vision she had and if I’m being honest, her death came so abruptly that the viewer doesn’t even get to feel anything.
Mimi has been around for awhile and has popped up throughout every season of Roswell, New Mexico so it was a shame that her death was just done in a way that there was no buildup. It felt completely rushed. It’s not that we wanted them to drag her death over the course of the episode but, having her die right at the beginning of the episode just felt wrong.
Before Mimi died, she tried to show Maria what she saw in her vision but because Maria has lost the ability to have any, she’s not able to see what her mom tried to show her. She just kept pointing to her palm and saying, “You must go there.” After a whole lot of soul searching and trying to figure out what her mom was trying to tell her, Maria’s research leads her to her mom’s wedding album and a drawing of a tree.
Don’t ask us what the tree has, we’re as lost as you. Our only theory is the tree could have something to do with the spot where Alex is buried underground or something else alien related to the triad with Bonnie, Clyde and Tezca. We really do wish Maria could tell everyone that she’s not able to have visions because then maybe they would stop expecting it. Especially Liz.
Look, we love Liz, but it was a little insensitive for her to say to Maria “You have us and your visions” as a way to offer comfort to Maria grieving the loss of her mom. Not exactly the right choice of words. It’s no wonder that Maria only feels she can confide in Dallas about her lost visions. Even when Dallas tries to get her to tell Liz, she refuses because she knows Liz is off on another scientific crusade. Dallas a good guy and he really is the friend Maria needs because he doesn’t expect anything from her like everyone else. He just lets her be and provides encouragement.
Liz’s latest scientific crusade involves researching the alien epidermal tissue. With the revelation that Jones’s body was taken, Liz, Max, Michael, Kyle, and Isobel are working to figure out a way to stop the alien triads plans. They don’t know what the plans are, and they still don’t even really know what it is that they are up against. Liz learns that the alien epidermal tissue has the ability to “play dead” whatever that all means. We don’t know about you but alien tissue that can play dead probably isn’t a good thing and that would make whatever they have to contend with, stronger than anything they come up against before.
Michael spends the episode bonding with Bonnie and Clyde so he can get more information about who their third is. Michael ends up learning a lot more than he expected. He not only is able to break down Bonnie and Clyde’s walls, but he also learns about the Oasis where their alien home is.
We always love watching Michael learn more about his home because he lights up when he does. His life is much different than Max and Isobel’s and he’s always felt like an outsider. While bonding with Bonnie and Clyde though it’s been for investigative purposes, for Michael it’s also time that he’s enjoying. Bonnie and Clyde provide a link home for Michael that he hasn’t previously had.
Initially when Michael tried to bond with Clyde, he wasn’t having any of it until Michael let it slip that he’s Jones’s son. Clyde was definitely shocked by that considering he was Jones’s “star pupil.” His attitude towards Michael changed immediately and he was basically like “let’s be besties now.” No, Clyde didn’t say that but, you get it. He got super friendly trying to get in Michaels good graces. This led Clyde to show Michael why he and Bonnie have been robbing banks.
What Clyde shows Michael is a board that looks like a puzzle. So far, they have three of the pieces they need and only one more is needed. According to Bonnie and Clyde, it’s a board that is supposed to take them back home. Oh, and Michael’s mom is the one who made it. So yeah, Michael had a pretty eventful day. Although, he still doesn’t know his man is missing yet so…
Okay, it looks like we may be getting our Kybel moment sooner than we thought. Kyle and Isobel always work so well together, and they tell it like it is. There is no pulling punches. We love that they have such an open relationship. Even though Kyle is clearly crushing on Isobel he still tried to help her with her relationship with Anatsa. With some encouragement, she finally gets the courage to tell Anatsa the truth about who and what she is.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go they way we hoped they would. In an earlier conversation, Anatsa told Isobel that she was offered a job working for the Albuquerque Journal. Instead of Isobel trying to get Anatsa to not take the job, she told her she should take it. That’s why it didn’t really come as a surprise that Anatsa left even after Isobel attempted to fight for their relationship and come clean. Isobel was so heartbroken, and we were heartbroken for her. We really want her to find love already.
The last thing we gotta talk about is all the crazy, wild alien DRAMA with Tezca the third member of the triad. Stay with me because it’s a lot. We now kind of have an idea of who she is and apparently this chick is strong as hell. She’s got some kind of powers that are unmatched. She’s somehow able to shape shift into everyone. At least all the people she’s come in contact with and mind controlled.
So far, Tezca has taken control of Eduardo, a trucker named Renata, and now agent Cameron. She uses agent Cameron to pull a fast one on Max, but he figures out that she’s not agent Cameron when she starts asking way too many questions and leads him right to Jones. As their showdown is taking place, Kyle is off in Careyes Mexico following up on a lead.
When Isobel and Kyle were back at Deep Sky trying to locate Eduardo, they found a picture with a message attached saying “There are things in Careyes you’d find interesting. Ask for Xitlali.” That’s what sends Kyle to Careyes. Initially he thinks Xitlali is a person but one of the townspeople tells him it’s a place.
When Kyle makes it to that place, what he finds is pretty shocking. It’s Tezca in stasis in a pod. But how the hell is that possible if she’s in Roswell? Things just got even crazier with this season, and we have no ideas how things are going to turn out, but we know we still have quite the ride to go.
Other Things
- RIP Mimi. Your death was still far too abrupt.
- “I must have said something dumb.” Yeah, Liz you did.
- I hope Clyde is going to get Michael a new phone to replace the one he broke.
- When is Michael going to find out Alex is missing?
- The “You are my turquoise” Echo moment. ALLLLLLLL THE FEELS!!!!!!!
- Max pulled a whole ass pickup truck out of the ground. Can he find Alex now please and do the same?
- “This symbol has followed me around like a bad tweet my whole life.” – Isobel to Kyle.
- So, Dallas is having visions about his dad. We don’t mind getting a bit of Dallas’s past thrown in this season. He should get to know more about himself.
- Everyone was so confused to see Eduardo and agent Cameron’s blue eyes but, why? Their eyes were unnaturally blue so obviously something wasn’t right.
- Agent Cameron was in love with Max. We knew she had feeling for him but hearing her tell Isobel she was actually in love with him was a huge confession.
