When I set out on 2022, one of my biggest goals that seemed unreachable (but I was holding out hope for) was to speak with Kal Penn. What can I say, I have always loved Designated Survivor.
But as my goal was coming true, it was for another series that I am excited for, The Santa Clauses. And well, the thing is (though I have only seen a few episodes) I was sad that I haven’t really liked his character. I am told my feelings on that will change though.
In the show, Penn plays Simon Choksi, who Santa has put on the list for a potential replacement for the red suit. Simon is a tech dude, with an innovative way to deliver things. To me, he came across as so involved in his job (which I didn’t like and reminded me of why I didn’t like Scott Calvin originally), but he is a devoted father (yes, I am seeing a he’s a lot like Scott).
Penn assures me that there is a redemption arc for Simon, which I can’t wait to see. But until then, learn all about Simon and his daughter Grace, played by Rupali Redd, that I could learn in three minutes. Can I just say she may be the most charming child actor ever?
The Santa Clauses is about, “Scott Calvin is on the brink 65th birthday and realizing that he can’t be Santa forever. He’s starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole. With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole.”
The Santa Clauses stars Tim Allen as Scott Calvin/Santa Claus, Elizabeth Mitchell as Carol / Mrs. Claus, Kal Penn as Simon Choksi, Elizabeth Allen-Dick as Sandra, Austin Kane as Cal, Rupali Redd as Grace Choksi, Devin Bright as Noel, and Matilda Lawler as Betty.
The Santa Clauses will premiere with the first two episodes of the six episode series on November 16.
