AFC Richmond will finally return to the small screen when Ted Lasso Season 3 premieres on Apple TV+ this spring. The streaming service announced the news today, releasing the first-look photo of Nate Shelley crossing paths with his former friend and co-worker Ted Lasso, presumably at West Ham United’s stadium in London.
Nate left AFC Richmond after a tense season, which wrapped up with Ted Lasso 2×12, “Inverting the Pyramid of Success,” in October 2021. Fittingly, yet heartbreakingly, that Season 2 finale draws Nate’s bold line when he rips Ted’s beloved ‘Believe’ sign on his way out the door.

The season’s final scene reveals that Nate aligns himself with an opposing team and Ted Lasso‘s supervillain — Rupert Mannion. Rupert is featured in the first-look photo’s background, making his presence known, as he often does, even at the funeral of his ex-wife’s father.
There is plenty to read into in this single photo — from each character’s demeanor and facial expressions to their clothes and the blocking. But, unfortunately, speculation is all Ted Lasso fans can do for now because Apple TV+ is keeping the details of Season 3’s plot under wraps. Luckily, there isn’t much time until spring, so the wait for a new Ted Lasso season is — finally — almost over.

In the meantime, Ted Lasso Season 2 has received critical acclaim, winning the Emmy Award for Best Comedy Series. Jason Sudeikis won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, while Brett Goldstein took home the Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. In addition, MJ Delaney won Oustanding Directing for a Comedy Series for 2×10, “No Weddings and a Funeral.”
The Apple TV+ show also released a delightful animated short, “The Missing Christmas Mustache,” in December 2021. Then, the show’s fictional football team, AFC Richmond, joined the big leagues in FIFA 23.
