When you think about The Witcher, the chances are that you don’t often consider the word comical. It’s dark, deep and full of beautifully terrifying cinematic sequences. Because of this, we decided to set ourselves the task of finding 5 times that we chuckled, howled, or cried with laughter at the dry humour that emanates from possibly the most deadly Witcher to have ever walked the Continent.

Yennefer Isn’t Impressed with Geralt
The first time the two met, Yennefer commented on Geralt’s appearance; not because he was a hulking mass of muscle (played by Henry Cavill) with white hair down to his shoulders (we wonder what type of anti-humidity spray they used to achieve that menacing yet charming look), but because she was actually impressed. This might not be obvious at first, but if you consider what she says to him, that she expected him to have fangs, you can tell that she’s actually implying that she likes the way that he looks.
This isn’t the funny part either; in fact, it’s what Geralt says back to her. He responds with an off-the-cuff remark about how he had his fangs filed down. It’s quick and witty one liners like this that give us a glimpse into Geralt’s actual personality, whereby he’s a monster hunter by day (and night), but he also likes to poke fun at the image of Witchers, who they are and what they do, as well as people’s perceptions of them.

Geralt Vs the Satyr
Okay, this is a scene that many remember because we actually get a look at the costume budgeting of the first season of The Witcher, with a close-up of Tork, the Silven who decided to pick on the wrong white-haired warrior. Geralt doesn’t just pin Tork down after an attempted sneak attack, he goes on to mock his heritage, accusing his mother of mating with a goat.
This is one of the first times that we get to see Geralt in his element, knowing that monsters are a minimal threat to him and being confident enough to mock one of them to their face for no other reason than because he can.

Geralt Picks on Jaskier (Or Dandelion, for fans of the game)
Geralt and Jaskier have a notoriously appealing love-meets-hate relationship. Jaskier comes close to death, Geralt saves him, but he has no idea why. We can’t pinpoint one particular scene of Geralt mocking Jaskier because there are so many, but some of our favourites include forcing the latter to walk, while Geralt rides Roach, or when Geralt mocks Jaskier’s singing capabilities (stating that it’s like ordering a pie and finding out that it has no filling).
There was even once or twice when Geralt lost his temper at the musician, and although this could be seen as a little mean, the truth is that Jaskier adds a certain comedic stability to the show and this is why his reaction to Geralt’s perpetual onslaught leaves us in stitches; almost like a married couple that inadvertently found themselves super-glued to each other by their elbows.

Jaskier Picks on Geralt
The tides have turned as Jaskier isn’t just a victim of Geralt’s verbal abuse – he knows how to fight back. From mocking Geralt while he takes a warm bath, to perpetually calling him a miserable old man; Jaskier certainly knows how to give it as much as he gets it. Okay, things take somewhat of a dark turn in Season 2, where Jaskier decides that he hates Geralt and even writes an incredibly unique song about him that even those that don’t know the series comment on, but underneath it all, the boys are like feuding brothers that care for one another deep down.
Later seasons promise the same quick-witted barbs to be traded between the pair and after the producers received so many complaints about the first season revolving more around Yennefer and less around Geralt and his legendary exploits fighting monsters or nurturing Ciri to become the most powerful woman in the entire Continent – we’ve been told to expect more dry humour as later seasons are released.

Geralt Becomes the Butcher of Blaviken
It’s not often that we get to laugh at some of the goriest scenes on television, but this one left us gasping and then without any other option than to burst into laughter in an attempt to deal with what we’d just seen. The scene takes place in Blaviken, a small village ruled over by an elite few, and where magic takes place underground (although most of the locals know that it’s present).
After being cornered by what we can only describe as brutes, Geralt goes on to dispatch each of them, one at a time, brutally with sword thrusts through the head, limbs and more. So, what exactly makes this funny? Well, it’s the irony that this is all in a day’s work for our favourite Witcher. He didn’t go out of his way to find them, they pursued him through the streets until they had him cornered, and what did Geralt get in exchange for his self-defense? The title of the Butcher of Blaviken.
And there you have it, 5 times that we laughed, or almost cried, during The Witcher. If you’ve ever wondered how Geralt gets his iconic wavy hair, you might be surprised to hear that it’s a wig. We’re being sarcastic here, because Henry Cavill does in fact have very short, military style hair in real life and so only a wig could truly complete the look of this Witcher. With that in mind, it’s worth noting that the wig is exposed to treatments to make it look like it’s been designed by controlled chaos – and if you’re a fan of the style, simply curl your hair and then apply a little anti-humidity spray to enjoy a fresh, active look that is as eye-catching as it is easy to manage. These were some of our favourite scenes and we have no doubt that there will be plenty more laughs (and screams) as The Witcher continues.
