We can’t wait until the day that we can all talk openly about Barbie. Right now, it’s not the time, as people are just seeing it and we’re not into spoilers (and before you come at me, we know we’re not perfect and spoilers can be subjective, but we move on).
With Barbie now in theaters, all of the interviews that were done prior to the actors strike are making their way out. We’re loving that and are enjoying every single moment of it.
Director Greta Gerwig has been asked a lot about directing the movie. Which you know, we expect, cause like, she’s the director. We’ve been on enough sets to know that directing is hard and they have to see the big picture in every move that they make.
We don’t like to make decisions, but directors need to make decisions on the daily. Gerwig was asked about making choices and said on Choice Words with Samantha Bee, “If you think about it as having to make a million decisions a day – which is what it is, but if you think about it that way, it can be quite paralyzing. This all sounds really mystical but I kind of believe movies want to be something, and you sort of like listen to the movie. What does the movie wanna be? With your collaborators and everything, it’s like you’re all kind of listening to the movie and trying to figure out what it’s saying to you.”
While we learned a lot from her time on the podcast, our favorite thing we learned? Well that’s what Ryan Gosling had to say to her about her directing.
She said, “Ryan Gosling said to me… We were doing something just bananas, as many of the things we do in this movie are bananas, and he came up to me afterwards and he said ‘you really hear the song in your heart clearly.’ And I was like, ‘I do, you’re right. I do’. I don’t always feel that way, but right now with this [movie], I do, I hear the song in my heart clearly.”
Yes, we teared up over that. We’re so glad she heard the song clearly.
Barbie is in theaters now. Have you seen it? What are your thoughts?
