Like so many of you we’ve been wondering why it was that Ed Sheeran had to postpone his Las Vegas show. We knew that it had to have been for a great reason, because Ed values his connection to his fans. He wouldn’t let them down if he could avoid it at any cost.
He’s that type of man. That type of performer. That type of connection to his fans.
While his announcement of the delay didn’t give away much, the singer returned to Instagram to talk more about the delay and just why he had to do it.
The Sun had reported on the reasons, saying that Ed Sheeran’s, “team were bringing their gear in ahead of soundcheck when a flooring problem was flagged. Rubber tiling had become unstuck — causing two tall towers to slip overnight by about a foot each. Engineers tore the rig apart and reinforced the towers but both were still found to be shifting.”
So as you can see, but reading that, Ed had to postpone because of safety concerns. The singer screenshot the article and posted it, along with saying, “A little bit more context on the cancellation yesterday. It was a safety issue, and we really tried to do the best we could to make the show happen but I’m not gonna risk the safety of my fans for anything. I really am gutted, this was very much out of my control but I do take full responsibility for everyone that was put out from the cancellation.”
He continued, “Of course refunds are available at point of purchase, and there is a rescheduled show October the 28th if people still want to come, I promise it will be special. Nothing will take away from the effort people went to to get to vegas though and I’m sorry it wasn’t communicated sooner to the people waiting outside. We really thought the show was going to happen up until the very last moment but it just couldn’t for safety reasons. Sorry again to everyone affected, and hopefully see you in October x”
We’re thankful that in this day and age that there are performers like Ed Sheeran who put their fans first. We know this had to have been heartbreaking for him, but also that he knew that what he was doing was right.
And for that, we appreciate him even more.
