We watch a lot of TV and movies! And we listed a lot of music, podcast, audiobooks…so yeah, we’re fangirling over a lot of things! So we come together to highlight all the feels they give us throughout the week. On these Fangirlish Feels of the Week, there are five categories and many thoughts! Ready?
Here we go!
What You’re Fangirling Over This Week
Rachel: Watching Ada get married on The Gilded Age this week was emotional for me. Not only did she seem doomed to stay a spinster but her sister Agnes selfishly opposed the marriage at first. It briefly seemed like Ada might back down, not being a particularly strong character, but her fiance fought for her and niece Marian encouraged her. And Agnes showed up at the wedding! SOB!
Ashley T.: Heck yeah, Anya Taylor-Joy as Furiosa in this upcoming Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga film. I love Anya in anything, so it’ll be fun to see her in this film. It also means I need to watch Mad Max: Fury Road again. I’m not sorry about that. I just hope this Furiosa film continues the Fury Road usage of practical effects. That was one of the best things about that film.
Shana: Margo Madison solving problems on For All Mankind again, obviously.
Erin: I’m in my Countdown to Christmas Era, so I’ll be fangirling over the movies for the foreseeable future.
WTF Moment of the Week
Rachel: The completely historically inaccurate moment in Napoleon when the French hit the pyramids with a canon ball. What was that?!!?
Ashley T.: Bob Iger. Seriously? The man is out of touch with reality if he thinks “themes” and “messages” can be divorced from stories. Can we get folks who actually understand storytelling to start running these studios?
Jasmine: That Desantis/Newsom Red State vs. Blue state debate. That is all.
Ashley W.: David Zaslav needs to invest in a dictionary, because saying that it took “courage” to scrap Batgirl is infuriating. I fail to see what’s so brave about neglecting hundreds of people’s hard work and maybe sure it never gets to be appreciated — let alone seen.
Erin: Well that would be Alberto Rosende leaving Chicago Fire. This is bullshit. The way that they keep shaking up casting is one thing, but they expected us to invest in Violet and Gallo and they take it away. Fuck the world, not happy about this!
What We’re Listening to This Week
Rachel: This week, I only had time to listen to a few songs connected to the Colin/Penelope ship on Bridgerton. Before the instrumental songs were used in the final episodes, “Crown” by Stormzy and “Attention” by Charlie Puth were played while they filmed the Polin ball scenes in 1×08 and 2×08, so I listened to those. I also listened to Taylor Swift’s “Dress” because former showrunner Chris Van Dusen said he listened to it while writing for this couple.
Ashley T.: I’ve been slowly working my way through the backlog of Brett Goldstein’s Films to Be Buried With Podcast. Brett’s a great interviewer and always has a fun guest to chat about their life through film on each show. I especially enjoyed the episode with Hannah Waddingham from 2020 this week. If you enjoy film and thinking through how film affects our lives, then give Films to Be Buried With a listen.
Shana: Unapologetically going to say Abby Lee Miller’s podcast. Brady and Kalani’s episodes were particularly interesting, but honestly, I’m looking forward to hitting some messier episodes. Everything is so terrible right now, Abby Lee could be at her absolute worst and still be a positive mark on my day so.
Jasmine: Well, since Spotify is dropping those annual wrap playlists, I’m currently listening to mine because I need a reminder of where my head was at all year. 😊
Ashley W.: Spotify Wrapped told me I’m among the top 0.001% of Dermot Kennedy’s worldwide listeners. It’s such a ridiculously small number, but that says everything about what I’ve been listening to not just this week but year as a whole.
Erin: Call her Daddy. I love this podcast… A LOT. Alex Cooper is always getting every answer. She spoke with Kelsea Ballerini this week. The interview was fantastic.
What We Rewatched This Week
Rachel: I rewatched the live-action The Little Mermaid this week. Just because it’s pretty good.
Christabel: G.I Joe: Retaliation is a great rewatch for anyone looking for a good action flick to watch as we wait for G.I Joe: Ever Vigilant.
Ashley T.: I saw The Marvels for a seventh time. I’m not sorry about it either. I notice new things every time I see it, and sometimes, you just need a comfort movie. That’s The Marvels for me.
Jasmine: Honestly, I’ve been rewatching clips of Spencer and Trina AKA Sprina from General Hospital on YouTube. Their scenes always make me feel good and give me comfort. So I guess those are my comfort characters.
Ashley W.: I wanted to watch something festive, so, me being me, that meant rewatching Hawkeye. When it comes to Marvel series, I definitely prefer the pre-DIsney+ content. But Hawkeye is among my favorite Marvel Disney+ series. Though it still suffers from some issues that Marvel’s Disney+ shows tend to have, Hawkeye is so much fun and a great way to have brought Kate Bishop into the MCU.
Badass Character of the Week
Ashley T.: I was watching Abbott Elementary again this week, and I’ve got to hand it to Janine in that season 2 finale. Sure, I want to see her and Gregory get together, but her choosing to take care of herself first is a bold move. It’s hard to take care of yourself, and I think it’s pretty dang badass of Janine to do it.
Shana: I guess since I gave Margo the shoutout up above, and because I said last time that she’s the badass from now until whenever I say, we are again going to have to stan Commander Danielle Poole.
Ashley W.: I finished my Agent Carter season 1 rewatch this week, so I’ve got to go with none other than Peggy Carter. Despite the work she did in the war, she is still seen as a mostly worthless woman by her S.S.R. colleagues. But she holds her own and continues to be a badass agent in an office full of men who are (mostly) uninterested in letting Peggy do anything meaningful or impactful.
