July 15, 1990.
Emmas life is kinda depressing. Depressing because she allows it to be, and seems to be fine settling with her less than happy attitude. Dex is still living life with not a care in the world and oblivious to the shit that he does. Both have depressing lives in a way, but hey, that’s the way the cookie crumbles.
Emma’s working at some less than desirable mexican food restaurant and it’s honestly turned me off from ever wanting to have sour cream again. She’s reminded of how miserable her life is when Dex shows up with his wanna be producer girlfriend.
Emma and Dex meeting up with each other, this is something that I wanted to see. But seeing them together, I wonder why they don’t see what everyone else sees. Sees the fact that these two had fate get in their way and they ignored it. Sees the fact that love is right there.
A life that they are supposed to live together. Sometimes as friends, sometimes as lovers. They’ll get there. They’ll get beyond the parks and the bottles and they’ll realize that all of these moments are meant to be more.
While I wonder what Dex thinks life is, I wonder when they’ll see that this life, and the way that they fit together is something special, we’ll all get thee.
Seeing Dex pining over Emma is absolutely heartbreaking, because she doesn’t see it. She doesn’t see that he doesn’t care what she does and where she is, he just likes being in her presence.
It’s a weird thing to see Dex so grown and is the voice of reason. But that’s the thing, we all change in life. We all grow. When Emma meets up with Dex, she tells him that she wants to move back to Leeds. To do what? Who knows. She doesn’t know.
The thing about Emma wanting to give up and move home is that Dex is not afraid to call her out on that. He’s telling her not to give up. He’s telling her that for her he thought is a lack of confidence, but may it is arrogance.
The way that he calls her out on her shit and she knows that he’s right, so she falls into that moment of knowing the Dex is her comfort. He’s the person that she can be frank with. So when they grab another bottle and some bad chips and they talk.
They talk a lot.
While I would have loved to have heard the conversations that they have had. I would have loved to have heard the way that they’ve bonded. But the thing is – maybe what we got is what we need.
When it’s time for them to leave, Dex tells Emma she can stay at his place and personally, I am all about that. But I respect that she says no and that’s going home. Whatever happens next with these two, I am going to be applauding.
However long it takes.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- Dex’s Mom is sick. I am worried, because that would destroy him.
- I wanna know what it is that Emma and Dex talked about.
- Ian at Emma’s job – he’s umm… well, don’t even know what to say there.
- Seriously what is up with Emma’s job. Like I respect the hustle though.
