We are back! The fierce fight to get a place in the Seikai Taikai begins in Cobra Kai 6×04 “Underdogs” and brings out the worst in some Miyagi-Do students. We have to admit that we knew that choosing the six students who should go to the Seikai Taikai was going to cause problems, but we couldn’t imagine how many. Ready?
Here we go!
Fight For The People You Cared About in Cobra Kai 6×04 “Underdogs”

Daniel and Johnny made a good decision in Cobra Kai 6×04 “Underdogs” by hiring a third sensei who would be impartial when evaluating students to compete in the Seikai Taikai. After all, both have their favorites and can’t put things in perspective. However, what was a good idea ended up being a nightmare.
Sensei was acting like a dick, especially around Devon, and that triggered Johnny’s protective instinct. He’s nothing if he doesn’t protect the people he cares about with everything he has… but doing so was a mistake. Devon is good but to compete in the Seikai Taikai you have to be even better than that.
Sensei was being harsh and a real dick but it’s nothing they won’t face in Seikai Taikai. They have to be prepared for that and Devon wasn’t measuring up, that’s the reality.
Johnny doesn’t do Devon any favors by interceding for her with the sensei — as Cobra Kai 6×04 “Underdogs” clearly shows at the moment when Johnny is talking to him and he misses one of Devon’s boldest moves — not only because she hasn’t earned the position on her own merits, but because if Devon is not ready she must live with it.
Johnny’s intervention is only a short-term gain, long-term pain thing because, despite everything, if Devon is not ready for the Seikai Taikai, she will lose the fights and it will have been of no use that she was one of the six chosen.
The Price of Victory in Cobra Kai 6×04 “Underdogs”

That said, we can even understand — even if it’s not the right thing — that Johnny tried to speak up for Devon so that the sensei would evaluate her more closely and take into account not only her current abilities, but her potential, but when Johnny finishes screwing up is at the moment when he is going to talk to the sensei alone.
The team for the Seikai Taikai was already decided and Devon wasn’t included for a reason but Johnny’s words make the sensei give the decision another twist, almost as if they were giving them one more chance just so Devon would be in. And it’s not fair to the others who are ready to compete in the Seikai Taikai.
This opportunity gives Devon wings in Cobra Kai 6×04 “Underdogs” although she knows that she will lose because she isn’t fast or strong enough. So Devon decides to go the easy way and play dirty, harming a partner, a friend. All out of pride and competitiveness when, deep down, Devon knows perfectly well that she’s not ready to go to the Seikai Taikai, which is why she did what she did. This is so unfair!
And we want to make this clear, it’s not Johnny’s fault that Devon played dirty. He just wanted to give her one more chance for Devon to believe in herself and prove her worth. But she preferred the easy path rather than lose with honor, having given everything she was capable of. Devon chose to play dirty and that, along with the end-justifies-the-means philosophy, is not typical of Miyagi-Do, but of Cobra Kai. And it’s a shame that Devon has fallen so low.
At least Devon has the decency to feel guilty, but not enough to confess, apologize, and walk away. Not for the moment. We need her to do it before she competes in the Seikai Taikai or if she doesn’t, Johnny and Daniel find out the truth and get her away from it. She doesn’t deserve to be where she is.
Dirty Play in Cobra Kai Style

Frankly, Demetri got on our nerves in Cobra Kai 6×04 “Underdogs.” We can understand that, since they were children, he and Hawk had shared the dream of going to MIT together, and discovering that Hawk now doesn’t want the same thing and, in some way, abandoned him, makes Demetri feel furious. We also know that this fury hides the pain of feeling that Hawk and he are no longer as close as before and the fear of facing a new stage in his life alone.
However, at the end of the day, Hawk is the only one who must decide which university he wants to go to and the path he wants to follow. It’s his life and he doesn’t owe Demetri any kind of explanation. What’s more, Demetri should act like a true friend and support Hawk in whatever he wants to do, but instead, he’s acting childish, selfish, and quite mean.
We can hardly believe that in Cobra Kai 6×04 “Underdogs” Demetri was so low as to play dirty in that fight with Hawk. The fight was already over and Demetri still took advantage of the fact that Hawk lowered his guard to knock him out and take the glory of being one of the chosen for the Seikai Taikai. A detestable act if you ask us.
Demetri didn’t deserve to be there, he played dirty to achieve it and that is not something like him or Miyagi-Do. It’s something typical of Cobra Kai. There is no honor in a victory like that, there is no honor in deception or taking advantage of your rival.
Hawk didn’t even want to fight him for God’s sake, and this guy who claimed to be his friend took away something important to him because of a childish tantrum. Demetri doesn’t deserve to be part of Miyagi-Do. We said what we said.
We just hope Daniel and Johnny find out about this before Demitri gets a chance to fight in the Seikai Taikai and gets kicked off the team. Or, at least, for Demitri to reconsider, apologize to Hawk, and leave behind a position that never belonged to him.
Nothing Worthwhile is Easy

We find the conversations between Daniel and Anthony in Cobra Kai 6×04 “Underdogs” interesting. Anthony wants to get to the Seikai Taikai and passes the first round, which, after training for such a short time, is impressive.
But Anthony wants more and he really thought his father’s words would come true, and when they don’t, he feels furious at his father for making him think he had a chance. For giving him hope and then feeling that great disappointment and feeling vulnerable, a vulnerability that he hadn’t felt since Kenny bullied him.
We understand that Anthony wants to prove to himself in Cobra Kai 6×04 “Underdogs” that, after being lost for a long time, karate is his thing, it’s the right thing for him and he found his place in the world, not having to feel vulnerable anymore. However, it’s too naive to think that a few words of encouragement are magical.
Anthony achieved something big considering the short time he has been training and, if he keeps working hard, he will surpass himself. But nothing comes without effort or sacrifice, that’s just what Daniel wanted to say.
Other Stuff in Cobra Kai 6×04 “Underdogs”

- Kenny doesn’t deserve to have been humiliated like that.
- The only good thing about what happened with Kenny was showing Anthony that we are all vulnerable, in some way or another.
- We swear, when Devon was complaining again about that last test we screamed. Did she want something like a custom fitting or what?
- We are too disappointed in Demetri and Devon.
- We preferred Demetri defeated rather than someone capable of playing this dirty.
- Johnny had good intentions interceding for Devon but he screwed up big time. It was about everything being impartial for a reason…
- Daniel is right about everything he told Johnny: they don’t take the strongest team to the Seikai Taikai because he intervened. And that can cost them the championship.
- Sometimes a good fight is just what is needed…even if Daniel doesn’t agree.
- Hawk doesn’t deserve anything Demetri said or did to him.
