Star Trek: Prodigy 2×17 “Brink” has us on the brink! We infiltrate Solum, stage a rescue mission, and sometimes, we have to make the hard call. It’s an episode that has us on the edge of our collective seats and keeps us smashing the “Next Episode” button. There is a lot of high action in this episode so take a look at my review of Star Trek: Prodigy 2×17 “Brink.”

For the Kids
Star Trek: Prodigy 2×17 “Brink” delivers on high stakes action. It’s a tough call that Gwyn has to make, and sometimes even our heroes don’t make the right call. Kids need to understand that even the people they admire the most can make mistakes. That’s a good lesson for the kids and even the adults in the room. If adults were willing to admit their heroes aren’t always right, we would have fewer problems in the world. Learn the lesson now and kids won’t double down on bad leaders as adults. More of this, please!
There’s also a good lesson in Star Trek: Prodigy 2×17 “Brink” about understanding all the directions before acting. In all fairness, Wesley, in an attempt to not reveal spoilers to our crew did not specify that our crew must physically stay together, not just be united in spirit. However, it’s still important to ask clarifying questions before taking action. It’s a hard lesson, and truthfully, we all need the reminder.

For the Adults
Star Trek: Prodigy 2×17 “Brink” shows a lot of courage, especially when technically operating outside the lines of Starfleet protocol without assurance of backup. As expected, things are getting worse before they get better in Star Trek: Prodigy 2×17 “Brink.” “The future is uncertain. I am lost,” says Wesley. I’m quite certain that every adult in the room has said that or at least felt that in one way or another.
It can be quite difficult to know what to do when you have a plan and suddenly that plan goes awry. Wesley’s despair is palpable in that scene. Our crew has no time to regroup, so they do what everyone should in that situation—the next right thing. Can we figure out the exact solution to our problem? Not always, but we can do the next right thing. For our crew, this looks like giving Wesley and Ilthuran a chance at escape. It’s a tough call and we don’t know how things will work out, but it is the next right thing. Taking things one step at a time, and figuring out the next right thing, even under pressure, is the big takeaway from Star Trek: Prodigy 2×17 “Brink.”

Final Thoughts
Star Trek: Prodigy 2×17 “Brink” puts Solum and Starfleet on the brink of war. Because we didn’t explicitly follow instructions, not listening to Wesley or the great philosopher Dustin Henderson, “Never split the party!” we are now face-to-face with Ascensia. It will be tough to get out of this one. All we can do is do the next right thing.
