We’re on episode two of Emily in Paris and it is a lot. There is so much going on and well, if you blink you may miss something. But we’re here, with episode two starting and it starts off with what we knew was going to happen, judging by the end of episode one.
We were going to have to find Camile.
Look, Camile may not be my favorite person, but she’s a big part of this show and I don’t expect her to disappear. I know that she’s pregnant and she’s going to have to come back to Paris. Gabriel deserves to be able to be around his child. Her friends and family love her. Hell, even Emily misses her and is worried.
Before you kill me for that statement – Emily and Camile spend so much time going behind each others back and not being honest with each other, that there is no way that they are true friends. Camile threw Emily under the bus so she wouldn’t have to be honest. There are more reasons to hate Camile than like her. But then again, Camile has more reasons to hate Emily than to like her.
But maybe that’s the theme of this episode. Betrayal. Because there is a whole lot of betrayal going on.
Lets break it down.

CAMILE’S GONE MISSING
Emily is always in the position where she needs to tell Gabriel what is going on. It’s kind of annoying to be honest. Especially because he’s coming across lately as a woah as me type of person. He’s so worried about his feelings. Now, I don’t think that he means to be so self centered but in my opinion – that’s how he’s coming across this season.
He obviously worries about others. There isn’t a part of me that doesn’t think that he has a lot of feelings that he doesn’t know what to do with. But sometimes you need to put your big boy undies on and figure it out. He should try it.
When Emily feels she is forced to tell him about Sophie and that she thinks that Camile is in Greece, his reaction makes me want to slap him. It’s not about him. Yes, Camile left him at the altar. We all know that Cami and Emily made a pact. But the thing is – he’s not been perfect either.
Gabriel kept his own secrets and he didn’t speak up about how he felt, nor was he willing to put a stop to all of these people making choices based off impulse and lack of communication. I don’t pretend to understand why he acts like he wasn’t a part of all of the chaos that has occurred. Because HE IS.
When he screams that he hates all of these secrets, I applauded. It’s the first time that it feels like Gabriel is actually speaking up and telling it like it is versus holding everything in. I know it’s television, but I do also know that this show feels so real sometimes, that it feels like you can’t be mad at your friends.
And these characters feel like friends.
NEW JOB, OLD NEEDS
One thing that I love about Emily in Paris is the relationship between Sylvie and Emily. Sylvie is complicated – we all know that. But I can never tell if she denies Emily leading a client because she doesn’t like her or because it’s whats best. However, I think that this time, I think she’s giving Luc the lead on the luncheon because he’s supposed to know what is going on.
Having said that, I couldn’t help but laugh with the whole meeting and Julien feeding him details over the phone. It never goes as easy as it’s supposed to, but at the same point, I loved the whole meeting scene BECAUSE I think that Julien and Luc are such great characters that we need more of them.
Emily In Paris is an ensemble show and one thing that I don’t always think it does the best at is utilizing all of the cast. As a viewer, I want to know all of the characters. I want to know what they are doing. I want to know their lives.
With Julien and Luc, they have the same type of closeness that Mindy and Emily have. Seeing the aspects of their friendship come alive makes me feel a certain amount of comfort in the growth of Emily in Paris and its staying power.
Luc may feel betrayed by Julien’s departure, but he still values that friendship and to me that makes it even more special and something that as a viewer, I don’t want to look away from.

DID YOU FORGET A PART?
Luc is a great character, but has been underused throughout the seasons. He’s been a character that has provided comic relief, but now, he’s going to have to step up to the plate.
With Julien gone and Luc having to run lead on the luncheon, I get why he’s nervous. I feel like though, it’s a situation where he may know more than he thinks that he does. But maybe what has happened is that it took Julien leaving in order for him to see what he’s capable of.
I think that we see Luc rise to the occasion with this luncheon. I loved that he told Emily to go to Camile, because we all know that Luc loves drama and anything that sounds cinematic. Maybe it’s all his movie watching that made him think on his feet of the scavenger hunt.
I however, do see a problem coming. We all know that it has to be coming. There is no way that they can just keep sending people on a scavenger hunt and that not be a thing.
Luc manages to think on his feet and I really appreciated that. I love seeing more sides to him and I hope that this is something that continues. But what I really would love to see is more of Julien.
FIRST DAYS & CLOSET SHOPPING
Nicolas is working to redeem himself in Mindys eyes and I do like this. What I don’t like about him is that he poached Julien.
Yet, you can’t help but be excited for Julien with his new job. He’s genuinely excited over it and that’s a good thing. He wants everyone to know that he’s taken steps up, so when he sees Mindy, he for sure wants her to tell Emily.
Mindy and Nicolas have a discussion and I really do believe that he loves her. But she’s not wrong that she wants a man who is going to have her back. She wants him to be able to stand up to his Dad for her. Do I think he’ll ever do it? No.
I wasn’t surprised and yet I was when Mindy is willing to forgive him and go shopping in the brand closet. I see why her shopping was important – it was important so that she found out about Nicolas’ Dad. I was grossed out finding that he was still doing things that were inappropriate and making women undress in front of him and the implication if they didn’t was that they would not move up.
I am not sure how she’s supposed to navigate the knowledge of who Nicolas Dad is and how giving him that information will affect their relationship.

MONET FOR THE WIN
Leave it to Luc to give Emily the idea of checking her find a friend and figuring out where Camile is.
Am I shocked that for the show, the best idea is to send Emily after her? No. I’m actually quite glad that they did though, because I wanted them to have it out. I wanted to see Camile and Emily battle it out. I wanted to see them tell each other off.
And they do in their own way.
Now, I thought it was great that it was set at Monet’s house, because I love Monet. When seeing the scenery, I was like there is no way that these two can’t get along. But it takes a moment for them to get to that point.
What I do realize quickly is that as much as Camile’s actions annoy me, she has this desperate need for acceptance and lives in fear of not feeling accepted. It turns out Emily was the right person to bring her home.
And wouldn’t you know that going home means that Sofia will be there. She’ll be waiting for her. I appreciated that Gabriel was forgiving and embraced her. I also appreciated that Sofia and Camile were so happy to see each other. Seeing the way that Sofia and Camile are together, you know they care about each other, but I don’t think that they necessarily are in love. Not yet. Maybe they will be in the future.
I just don’t think that Camile isn’t still in love with Gabriel. Cause she is.
When Gabriel says that he understands what it’s like to fall in love with someone else to Emily, I felt like maybe there was going to be some redemption for him. Please don’t prove me wrong.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- Mindy telling Emily about Nicolas’ Dad, and then Sofia calling… that’s intense.
- Gabriel and Emily screaming at each other – about secrets. Well, we all hate secrets, but they happen.
- I really wish Gabriels restaurant was real.
- I miss Alfie.
- Don’t get me wrong, I do like Gabriel, but like he’s making me mad. I also understand his aloofness. But I can still be mad about it.
- Those girls in the brand closet – they are hero’s
- Emily telling Sylvie about the closet – so much respect for that. She knew that it was important to say something
- God, I love this show
