One thing that Emily in Paris does that is so good is the friendship between Mindy and Emily. When you watch this show, you can’t help but think – I want to have a friendship like that.
One that is unconditional and unassuming. One that is filled with forgiveness and hope. It’s kind of the beauty of the show – that no matter who it is – the genuineness of the relationship comes first. The way that they can find common ground or the way that they can remain indifferent to each other. Somehow it just all starts to find and in that moment of starting to fit what you’re left with is wanting to know more.
For me, the friendship between Mindy and Emily is one of those things that stands the test of time. It’s one of those things where you’re supposed to find faith. You know that it may not always be easy, but you know that somehow, these two are going to support each other regardless.
I just feel like this episode gave us that – a reminder that friendship is going to be there when it feels like nothing else is.
And that is something that I needed to remember.

POLO
Polo has never been my thing, but then again, nothing sports-related has. That being said, I enjoyed them putting a polo scene in the show. It’s big in Europe, I know. It also gives the show a good way to bring the Italian back into Emily’s life.
The guy who rescued Emily from the top of the mountain — turns out that it’s Nico’s friend. Now that should be a walking red flag, but Marcello’s smile and charm show me he’s not Nico. So, I will survive.
Emily reconnecting with the guy who saved her was something that I knew was going to happen but wasn’t sure when it would. That being said, I like that it wasn’t far off. Marcello seems very blunt, charming, and like a knight in shining armor. AKA Marcello seems too good to be true. However, I take Mindy’s way of thinking. Get back on the horse.
Emily does need time alone, I will give her that. However, that being said, I wouldn’t want to be alone in a foreign country either.
Marcello and Emily have a different report than her and Gabriel. She’s going to need a mister right now.
EUROVISION
Even though it was a brief moment, I loved that we’re finally seeing something about Eurovision. Well, a photoshoot for it.
I think that one of the things that has been this missed opportunity here is all of the planning and the things that can and will go into it. I loved seeing the photoshoot and the way that even the photographer wanted to see something between Mindy and Benoit.
It feels like we need more of the supporting cast stories. I want to know more about them so that I become more invested in them. I am invested in Mindy and that band, but I am losing some of that interest because they aren’t giving me enough of that storyline.

OVERSTAY THE WELCOME
With Camille having moved out, there is some hope that this show will stop running that apartment building like it’s Melrose Place. I fear that even though Emily doesn’t tell Daughter Evil about the vacant apartment – Gabriel will.
Genevieve has definitely overstayed her welcome at Sylvie’s.
The agency is pitching an Italian coffee brand. Luc has never been so excited and I am wondering why the Italian lady is so enthralled with Luc. That being said though, it’s nice to feel wanted and Luc enjoys that.
While pitching, Genevieve walks in and backs up what Emily says about Espresso Martinis. Both Emily and Sylvie look a little put off by her speaking up, but it doesn’t stop her from talking and crossing boundaries.
You see, Daughter Evil decides to also pitch Gabriel getting an invite to the party. Some may think that was innocent, but it definitely wasn’t. She’s trying to remind Emily that she’s got her place and that Gabriel doesn’t want to see her. I rolled my eyes so hard, you would have been able to hear it.
When Emily tries to remind Genevieve that she should run things by her first – of course Julien tells her that she did great. I do believe that Emily is getting a taste of her own medicine or at least she’s feeling like Julien felt all the times that she spoke up when he didn’t want her to.
The difference — to me — is that I do believe that this is hurting Emily on a personal level. It’s one thing to try and outrun people in business (even though screwing people over regardless isn’t good), but it’s another thing to intentionally hurt someone on a personal level. Genevieve is trying to hurt people on a personal level. So ya, don’t like her.

THE CRAZY HORSE
Mindy’s boob and voice disconnect will always make me laugh, but I get it. It’s also funny that she calls her boobs Hansel and Gretel. Most of us can say that we don’t call our body parts a name, but most of us do.
And that’s okay.
It’s her big debut at The Crazy Horse and even Nico has shown up. You can tell that he feels uncomfortable – but I think it’s mostly because of the controversy that surrounded his Dad and he’d be seen in a club with half-naked women. Then again, I could be wrong.
I also think that for him, his girlfriend being one of those half-naked women is a lot. Nico is making a ton of compromises for Mindy and I do love that about him (even if I don’t always like him), but I am wondering what compromises she’s making for him. I love her independence and I think it’s an important part of the show. BUT, I also believe that relationships are a two-way street and sometimes you have to be willing to meet in the middle.
Mindy gives an amazing performance, she’s uber-talented. I think that she’s meant to for huge things. I just think that she’s gotta figure out what she wants.
And who she wants.

ALL NIGHT LONG
Emily taking a chance and messaging Marcello was something that I loved to see. It can’t be easy making the first move — I mean, I know it’s definitely not. There is something though that makes it easier to make the first movie when there is no complicated history.
And there is something that is absolutely beautiful when you feel so at ease with someone that you spend the whole night talking and it feels like you’ve just begun.
I will say this, I am 1000% percent team Alfie. Am I saying that my mind won’t be changed? No. I am not. But with Emily and Gabriel, everything became so complicated and it was fighting so hard to figure out why they should be together. Love isn’t going to be easy, I do get that. But it shouldn’t be this end all, be all kind of struggle.
And with Emily and Gabriel, it was that way.
Marcello just makes her feel like she’s brand new. At least that’s the way I see it. She doesn’t care about his riches and he doesn’t care that she’s American. They both just want to get to know each other.
A night spent together walking around Paris was a good experience for them both. So much so that he misses his flight back to Rome to come to her party. She doesn’t get to spend time with him, because she’s so worried about Gabriel. Watching it, it’s kind of sad that Emily keeps missing out on the current to confront the past.
Marcello won’t let it be that easy — getting stuck in the past and staying inside her comfort zone. He wants her to come to Rome. One night of talking and helping her down the mountain and he’s willing to send her a ticket to come and see him in Rome.
I loved that this show made Emily seem hesitant to do that, because wouldn’t we all be? I would be. But there is always something special about Rome and its history. There is always something special about its food and its culture. Rome has a way of being magical.
See you soon then, in Roma.

OTHER THOUGHTS
- Camille moved out – I am not sad
- Gabriel saying that maybe they all need a fresh start… sir, take some responsibility for yourself
- Emily saying she’s a Starbucks girl – I feel you. Also laughed when it was a cardinal sin in France (it’s happened to me there too)
- Daughter Evil is evil and a liar
- Marcello telling Gabriel the story of Emily’s boyfriend, not knowing who he is, but I couldn’t stop laughing
- Why is everything business to Sylvie?
