We’re back! High Potential Season 1 Episode 10 ‘Chutes and Murders’ is a transitional episode that, while it didn’t advance any main plot, did accurately show the wounds that bullying leaves in its wake. Ready?
Here we go!
Mama Bear

Even though High Potential Season 1 Episode 10 ‘Chutes and Murders’ is mostly about the case, we want to comment on how well it reflects the bullying that Elliot suffers. Morgan behaves like a mama bear, protecting Elliot as she can, first trying to get that kid to invite Elliot to his birthday through a playdate and, later, when that horrible kid insulted Elliot, defending him tooth and nail. And we love her for that.
However, that doesn’t make Elliot feel any better. As a victim of bullying for most of my school years, I can totally understand how Elliot feels. That feeling that he’s an oddball, that he doesn’t belong. Unfortunately, that feeling isn’t one that a mother’s comments can make go away because you can’t help but think “That’s my mother, what is she going to say?” when the world is sending you the message that you’re the problem.
Morgan, as a mother, does everything she can do in High Potential Season 1 Episode 10 ‘Chutes and Murders.’ You always try to protect your children and fight to keep them safe, but the reality is that there are things that you can’t protect them from.
What Elliot feels…he will feel better, but his mother can’t fix that. He needs to see and feel that someone, even if they could choose to be anywhere else and with anyone else, chooses him. And that’s Ava, for whom texting with her boyfriend was the most important thing…and yet she chooses him first, puts Elliot first. And that makes all the difference.
