The beloved Fear Street series is receiving a much-anticipated fourth installment, with Netflix finally announcing the Fear Street: Prom Queen release date. Netflix already proved what it could accomplish with the Fear Street IP. In 2021, it released the first three films in weekly installments to the delight of critics and fans alike. While the trilogy chronicled a generational curse, Prom Queen stands on its own.
Most millennials are familiar with R.L. Stine’s Fear Street book series, which delivers scares well beyond the standard Goosebumps fare. While Netflix’s trilogy pulled from Stine’s Fear Street universe, this is the first entry to directly adapt a specific novel: The Prom Queen. Fans of Stine’s book can rest easy. Director Matt Palmer and screenplay co-writer Donald McLeary plan to deliver a faithful adaptation.

Prom Queen confirms a return to Shadyside. It’s 1988, and prom season is in full swing. The school’s popular girls are busy campaigning for the title of prom queen when an outsider joins the running. Not long after, the competitors begin disappearing one by one. While the Prom Queen release date teaser doesn’t offer much else in terms of narrative, the glittery stage backdrop suggests a Carrie homage may be in the cards.
Prom Queen features a large ensemble class, including India Fowler, Suzanna Son, Fina Strazza, David Iacono, Ella Rubin, Chris Klein, Lili Taylor, Katherine Waterston, and Ariana Greenblatt. It also stars Darrin Baker, Rebecca Ablack, Ilan O’Driscoll, Damian Romeo, Dakota Taylor, Eden Summer Gilmore, Brennan Clost, Cecilia Lee, and Ryan Roser.
