This month is an odd one to dive into true crime. But it also feels like the perfect month for it as the holidays roll in and distraction is needed. So if you’re like us and want to learn about the bad guys got caught or follow along as mysteries are uncovered, here are 5 true crime shows or documentaries to stream this November. And yes, this isn’t your typical list.
1. 50 Seconds: The Fernando Báez Sosa Case
50 seconds can change everything. 50 seconds can be the difference between life and death. This doc tells the brutal death of 18-year-old Fernando Báez Sosa in Argentina. Fernando was beaten to death by a group of men—mostly rugby players—outside a bar. As always, cowards only feel safe in a pack. The attack lasted 50 seconds. Sosa’s story will last forever.
50 Seconds: The Fernando Báez Sosa Case is available on Netflix.
2. Murdaugh: Death in the Family
Murdaugh: Death in the Family isn’t exactly a documentary, but rather a limited series inspired by true events. The series is based on “The Murdaugh Murders” podcast by Mandy Matney, who investigated and wrote on her blog about the case of Alex Murdaugh, accused of murdering his wife, Maggie, and their son, Paul, on June 7, 2021. And entering the lives of the Murdaugh family is like entering a very expensive, very broken house where everyone has secrets.
Murdaugh: Death in the Family is available on Hulu. The Finale premieres on November 19.

3. The Carman Family Deaths
Nathan Carman went fishing with his mother. A week later, he was found alone in a life raft. Was it an accident or murder? What happened during that week? Well, The Carman Family Deaths attempts to answer these questions. Although, sometimes, one isn’t ready for the truth. We have only a few days left to find out if this is the case.
The Carman Family Deaths will premiere on November 19 on Netflix.
4. Death by Lightning
Netflix kicked off the month with a bold one that might be a little more period drama. But it’s still true crime.
Death by Lightning tells the real story behind the assassination of President James Garfield and his admirer Charles Guiteau, who murdered him. This story, unfortunately, has been repeated several times throughout history. However, this one it’s not the typical historical retelling. The series digs into the assassination itself, but also the botched medical care that turned a wound into a death sentence.
Death by Lightning is available to stream on Netflix.

5. Ângela Diniz: Murdered and Convicted
A woman ahead of her time. A woman who fought for freedom in a society that wanted her silent and submissive…and paid for it with her life. Based on the “Praia dos Ossos” podcast, Ângela Diniz: Murdered and Convicted is set in Brazil and follows socialite Ângela Diniz and the events that led to her murder in 1976. This case was especially outrageous because of the legal argument of his killer, the “defense of honor.”
Ângela Diniz: Murdered and Convicted is available to stream on HBO Max.
