We’re back! High Potential Season 2 Episode 16 ‘Turn, Up the Heat,’ is a twisty one—necessary but agonizing—for Morgadec, while we delve into Captain Wagner’s personal life and his connection to Roman’s case, helping us better understand what’s happening with him. Ready?
Here we go!
Anguished Moments in High Potential Season 2 Episode 16 ‘Turn, Up the Heat’

High Potential Season 2 Episode 16 ‘Turn, Up the Heat,’ is a change of pace for Morgadec. One that reminded us that anguish is inherent in a slow burn and that it will later be worth it. Lucia and Karadec are serious. Like, they’ve talked about having kids. Morgan says it as a joke, like, can you imagine the always orderly and methodical Karadec with a baby turning everything upside down? But it turns out that’s not so far from becoming a reality. And when Morgan finds out, she can barely hide her jealousy and frustration.
And we agree.
Karadec and Lucia have barely been together for 5 minutes. And like 2 building something solid for the future. They ended their relationship years ago and are now different people. It’s a different kind of relationship. So yeah, 5 minutes is all they’ve been together. They’re moving too fast. Almost as if they’re afraid everything is going to fall apart, right? Wink, wink.
Going back to High Potential Season 2 Episode 16 ‘Turn, Up the Heat,’ when the case gets complicated, Karadec manages to get Morgan out before the building explodes and to safety. The problem is, he wasn’t safe. And those seconds when Morgan didn’t know if Karadec was alive or dead were the most agonizing for her. And when she sees him, safe, she’s overcome with relief and runs to him, wanting to hug him, touch him all over, check that he’s okay. But she holds back. They’re supposed to be partners. But not that kind of partners.
Although there isn’t much time to think. Karadec collapses in Morgan’s arms, literally dying in her arms. And she almost panics. The last time we saw her like this was when she and Karadec were locked in that secret room in episode 12 and Morgan couldn’t stop thinking about her children. That’s how important Karadec is to Morgan. That speaks volumes about how she feels about him.

The Truth of the Heart

When Karadec wakes up in the hospital in High Potential Season 2 Episode 16 ‘Turn, Up the Heat,’ it’s Morgan he calls. It’s her he wants there, by his side. And it’s her he’s thinking about. He even apologizes to Lucia for it. And that’s what gives him away the most. If you apologize for something you haven’t been asked to explain, you’re giving yourself away. Karadec may not want to accept it, but the one in his heart is Morgan, not Lucia. I mean, a woman who challenges you and scolds you for worrying her? A woman you share inside jokes with? That’s the one, my friend.
Speaking of Lucía, she doesn’t like this close relationship between Karadec and Morgan at all. So she takes the opportunity to talk to her because she knows Karadec’s change is thanks to Morgan. Karadec used to be the man who stood her up on dates to stay and work. The Karadec she’s with now would be incapable of that. And Lucía knows that’s because Morgan shook things up for him, forced him out of his comfort zone, to work differently, to change his perspective on the world.
And that’s wonderful…but also dangerous. A woman who can turn his life upside down like that? That puts Morgan in a very important position in Karadec’s life. And Lucía is aware of this in High Potential Season 2 Episode 16 ‘Turn, Up the Heat.’ However, Karadec gives her no reason to worry when he prepares a beautiful and romantic date for her at the hospital and tells her for the first time since they reunited that he loves her. And he means it. Karadec thinks he loves her. But does he truly love her, or does he just love the idea of what they were?
If you ask us, it’s the latter. Karadec loves the idea of what they were, of what they could have been. But his heart belongs to Morgan, and she’s the one he’s in love with. That said, Karadec isn’t ready to have this conversation yet. And to be ready, he needs to go through this with Lucía, to close the loop. He needs to realize for himself what he truly feels. Lucía is just a necessary stop on the journey, not the destination.

The Pawn in High Potential Season 2 Episode 16 ‘Turn, Up the Heat’

After watching High Potential Season 2 Episode 16 ‘Turn, Up the Heat,’ we understand what Nick meant in the previous episode about the police officers he met and how he’s used to having trust earned. His father is corrupt and clearly not a loving parent. He treats Nick like just another pawn to order around to do his dirty work. This still doesn’t excuse what he did, but it helps us understand where he’s coming from.
The point is, this is why Nick doesn’t get along with his father. He knows he can’t trust him or anyone connected to him. Everything his father touches is corrupt. And that’s why he doesn’t want Morgan involved in that mess. But despite this, Nick does exactly what his father tells him and offers Morgan the job. And that disappointed us. We couldn’t help it. Nick had the perfect opportunity here to redeem himself, to prove that he’s not like his father and not under his control.
But he was a coward and didn’t dare to rebel.
And part of us understands the decision Nick makes in High Potential Season 2 Episode 16 ‘Turn, Up the Heat.’ He grew up with this guy, under his manipulation and control. Nick grew up wanting his approval…and hoping to get it someday. So it’s not easy to rebel against all that. Especially not for someone he’s only known for a relatively short time. Fortunately, Morgan doesn’t fall for it and knows Nick is hiding something, so she gives him another chance to do the right thing.
And he does.

A Matter of Trust

When Nick sees that there’s a real danger of Morgan taking that job and getting involved with his father, Nick does the right thing. He starts to make amends by being honest with Morgan. And it’s the first time he’s been completely honest with her. Nick knows he messed up by not telling the truth from the beginning, and that’s the point.
Morgan feels she can’t trust Nick, not until she can be sure he won’t hold anything back. But Nick, at the end of High Potential Season 2 Episode 16 ‘Turn, Up the Heat,’ did the right thing. That matters. Nick isn’t a bad guy. He wants to distance himself from his father and his dirty dealings as much as possible and keep the people he cares about from falling into his trap. But that need clashes with the part of him that feels like he’s betraying his father.
So between that and the fact that Nick genuinely feels he can’t fully trust anyone, he sometimes puts his foot in it and isn’t entirely honest with the people who could help him. And, with this in mind, we come to the conclusion that Nick will be essential in catching his father, if he isn’t already working on it.
Ultimately, Nick is very keen to get involved in the Roman investigation, and in High Potential Season 2 Episode 16 ‘Turn, Up the Heat,’ we discover that his father is involved along with Willa. We don’t think Nick knows for sure that his father is involved in Roman’s case—if he did, we think he would have had more trouble offering Morgan that job—but perhaps he suspects it. And perhaps he wants to be part of the investigation to confirm it and build a case against his father. We’ll just have to wait and see…

Other Stuff in High Potential Season 2 Episode 16 ‘Turn, Up the Heat’

- “I’m going to see my boyfriend” sounds like marking territory to us…
- Morgan defending Karadec.
- And Karadec making sure she’s safe. My babies!
- We really didn’t expect Nick’s dad to be involved in Roman’s disappearance.
- Or that Willa was behind the whole job thing. We love this!
- Willa got the upper hand over Selena. We have to admit it. Selena managed to rattle her…but Willa isn’t one to stay put when she’s being tracked. And she didn’t seem to make any mistakes in her rush to cover her tracks. So Willa won this battle…but the war is still on.
- We love that Morgan wanted to confront Willa head-on once and for all. She has nothing to fear from her.
- But it was better for her to stay out of it for now. Otherwise, she’d be handing herself over to Willa on a silver platter.
- Only Karadec could stop Morgan. We realized that…
