Understanding Your Boss in High Potential Season 2 Episode 17 ‘Second Sunday’

High Potential Season 2 Episode 17 ‘Second Sunday’ made us forgive and love Nick Wagner in just 40 minutes. His fiancée was taken from him, and it still hurts. He still feels guilty for not being able to save her. So he needs to catch the thieves who did it. Only then can he bring her justice, put the pain behind him, and start moving on. So when a clue leads him directly to them, Nick doesn’t hesitate.
And Morgan knew something was off as soon as she saw him.
He lied to her again. It was something so innocuous about how he got to the crime scene, but why? Why can’t Nick fully trust her? Why is he so secretive? And why lie about something so…inconsequential? Morgan needs to know. She needs to understand him. Because she knows he’s a good guy. But she also knows he’s hiding a lot behind that face that screams, “I’m in complete control and nothing affects me.”
Nick is an enigma. And Morgan has to solve it, she has to understand him. She can’t think of anything else. So she doesn’t hesitate to investigate him in High Potential Season 2 Episode 17 ‘Second Sunday.’ And Nick has no choice but to admit why he’s so interested in the case. Morgan then feels a little regret for going so far. She understands the pain of losing someone so important. She suffered it with Roman. And she didn’t want to bring all that up again for Nick.
However, it helps her understand why he’s so secretive about his feelings. It’s a shield, a defense mechanism. Exactly like hers. She never lets anyone get too close either. And she struggles to trust. Selena, Daphne, Oz, Karadec… they’re family now, and she trusts them completely, but it took time for Morgan to feel that way. Nick barely had time to do so. So Morgan sees a lot of herself in Nick.

Sparks That Burn

Going back to High Potential Season 2 Episode 17 ‘Second Sunday,’ the case isn’t going exactly as Nick hoped. They still haven’t caught that gang. And a bottle seems like a good idea. It seems like the only thing that can make him forget the guilt and the taste of failure. And when he’s drunk, he starts being mean to Morgan for no reason. And at this point, we want to slap him! Luckily, Morgan is more diplomatic than we are.
But she sets him straight anyway. It’s time for Nick to stop feeling sorry for himself. She’s been there, in his shoes. Morgan went through the exact same thing, only worse. She had a baby to take care of. So there was no option to give up. She didn’t have the option to just let the pain consume her. Not even for a moment. And she didn’t act like a little girl throwing a tantrum like Nick is doing. And we can only say: PREACH! Morgan is a queen!
So, in High Potential Season 2 Episode 17 ‘Second Sunday’, Morgan takes Nick to his house to sleep it off. And that’s when Nick really tells her how he feels. The alcohol gave him the courage to finally open up and talk to someone. To trust. To show his vulnerability. The thing is, Nick trusts Morgan, but, just like her, he doesn’t like to show his vulnerability to anyone. He doesn’t like feeling so exposed. But if he has to do it with someone, Nick wants it to be with her. He knows she’s the one.
And that moment makes Nick let go. The alcohol gave him the courage to show absolutely everything he feels…including what he feels for Morgan. He likes her, he’s attracted to her…and he’s about to kiss her. He’s about to cross the line. But Morgan pulls away. There’s definitely a spark there with Nick, but there are many reasons why it’s not a good idea. He’s her boss, he’s drunk, but above all, they’re both sad. He’s sad about another woman, he’s thinking about her. And, if she’s honest with herself, Morgan also feels a little sad about Roman…and Karadec.
They both feel something for each other. But in that moment of High Potential Season 2 Episode 17 ‘Second Sunday,’ they’re united more by their shared grief than by their mutual attraction. And Morgan doesn’t want them to do something they’ll regret the next day. So, it’s definitely not a good idea. Morgan does the right thing by pulling away. But how does she act around Nick after that? She doesn’t even feel able to look him in the eye. Luckily, the case becomes a priority, and neither of them has time to dwell on it.
Until they reach the place where the gang is.

Debts Settled in High Potential Season 2 Episode 17 ‘Second Sunday’

Morgan is right behind them, and Nick is terribly worried that something will happen to her. He couldn’t save his fiancée. And he’s afraid the same thing will happen to Morgan. But he does it. He manages to arrive just in time, just when Morgan thought that was it for her. And saving her exorcises much of Nick’s guilt for not being able to protect his fiancée. But something is still missing. The guy who killed her still needs to be caught. Justice still needs to be served.
And when he does, when Nick finally has him in his grasp in High Potential Season 2 Episode 17 ‘Second Sunday,’ he can’t control himself. That guy took away the person he loved most. He’s felt empty ever since. It’s as if time has stopped for Nick, and he’s been like this for years, waiting. For this moment. So he strikes blow after blow. In that moment, Nick isn’t even thinking. He’s just letting himself be carried away by all the anger, rage, and pain he’s silently endured for so many years.
Until Morgan stops him. She’s the only one who can make him react, who can reach him. Nick looks her in the eyes…and little by little, he comes to his senses. Morgan anchors him to the here and now. And she makes him see that he’s better than this. Revenge won’t bring his fiancée back, nothing will. And it won’t make him feel better either. But justice will.
Once the case is resolved in High Potential Season 2 Episode 17 ‘Second Sunday,’ Morgan lets out everything she’s been holding in. When she saw that gun to her head, she truly believed she was going to die, that she would never see her children again. None of the people she loves. So she lets the tears flow and chase away the panic she felt. Once she does, she’s ready to go home and hug her children tightly.

Embracing the Future

Except that in the elevator, he runs into Nick. And everything quickly spirals out of control. Morgan knows that everything that happened wasn’t easy for him, so she wants to make sure he’s okay. But Nick is fine. Better than fine, in fact. By closing this case and catching the guy who killed his fiancée, Nick feels like he’s closed a chapter. He feels like he can finally let go of the past…and embrace the future. And that future has a name: Morgan.
He likes her. Nick feels something real for her, and once he put the pain behind him in High Potential Season 2 Episode 17 ‘Second Sunday,’ he feels ready to finally do something about it. So he takes her by the waist and kisses her passionately. And we swooned. What a kiss! The kind that leaves your legs trembling. And, if you ask us, we like it. Don’t get us wrong, Morgadec forever! But just as Karadec needs to be with Lucia right now, Morgan deserves some happiness too.
The fact that they’re both with other people is necessary for Morgadec to finally end up together. This is a slow burn, baby! So we’re all for Morgan having her adventures too. It’s not just Karadec who’s going to have fun in this game, is it? And yeah, we haven’t forgotten what Nick did to Morgan. He dumped her. But he’s officially forgiven in our eyes. He made a mistake, and we think he’s sorry for it, and meeting him helped soften our hearts. We won’t deny it.
That said, we don’t think Morgan and Nick have much of a future together despite what we saw in High Potential Season 2 Episode 17 ‘Second Sunday.’ We can’t forget that his father is involved with Willa in Roman’s disappearance. And that makes it almost impossible for anything between them to flourish.
We don’t rule out the possibility that when Selena tells Morgan, after so many secrets and lies, she might even think Nick is playing games with her—though that’s not the case. And we secretly hope Morgan doesn’t distrust him. But beyond that, it would be too strange for her to have a relationship with the son of the guy who was involved in Roman’s disappearance. And it’s a shame it’s ending soon because they make a good couple—better than Lucia and Karadec. So, we’ll enjoy this romance between Nick and Morgan while it lasts.
That said, after what we saw in High Potential Season 2 Episode 17 ‘Second Sunday,’ we don’t think he knows anything about his father’s role in Roman’s disappearance. We think he knows he’s corrupt and will surely want to catch him when the opportunity arises. But now we understand that he was so determined to help Morgan with Roman’s case because he saw himself reflected in her. Because of his fiancée’s murder, he knew what Morgan felt all those years…because he felt the same way.

Other Stuff in High Potential Season 2 Episode 17 ‘Second Sunday’

- “I know you.” Karadec, you’re giving us chills!
- We noticed the way Karadec approaches Morgan and touches her, caressing her shoulder, calming her, speaking softly to her, in an intimate way. And wrapping her in his arms protectively—and a little possessively. We’re DEAD.
- But then Lucia arrives and the magic moment ends.
- We’re sure that moment would have ended with their first kiss.
- Karadec, dude, wake up!
- And we hate that Lucia and Karadec are together. We know it’s necessary, though.
- Finally, Nick stands up for his team. We love it!
- The family scenes get us emotional.
- We noticed there was something between Nick and Morgan for a while. The show should have developed that more before getting to this point. We said what we said.
- What will happen now with the Roman’s investigation? How will Nick and Morgan react to the new information? We need to know!
