Gay hockey is giving way to… gay tennis? Which, to be fair, Challengers more or less was, without making it obvious. But hey, we’re happy if Hollywood wants to make every sport gay, aka show us how they’re already gay. Can we make it lesbian, too? Too few sapphic stories are being told. But that’s probably a story for another article.
For now, let’s discuss Romeo Beckham’s (yes, David and Victoria Beckham’s acting debut, so nepo baby alert) acting debut. We won’t judge yet, because if we’re being honest, we quite like the synopsis of the movie.
So, what do we know? What’s the movie about? Here’s all the info we have.
What’s Forty Love About?
The movie is being described as a coming-of-age, rivals-to-lovers romance. It follows Sacha Gallo, a young tennis prodigy who has been training to win a competition in Paris. Enter a charismatic new rival who will challenge him on and off the court.
“For the first time, he faces an opponent of an entirely different nature — love,” the logline reads. “A force as exhilarating as it is destabilizing — and far more dangerous than anything he has encountered on the court.”
The film will be helmed by fashion photographer Pierre-Ange Carlotti. The movie will mark his feature film debut. Gaëlle Macé wrote the script, and 070 Shake and Johan Lenox are set to score the movie.
“There is a rare tenderness, melancholy and strength in his images, and his move into directing felt like a natural next step to me,” Sélignac told Variety. It’s a “sensual, romantic and deeply moving romantic fable and coming-of-age story” about the “demands of high-level sport, and everything that lies beneath the surface … led by outstanding performances.” The outlet also released a first-look image
Who is in the Forty Love Cast?
Paul Kircher is set to play Sacha, while Beckham will star as his rival. Guillaume Canet, Benjamin Voisin, and Catherine Deneuve are also set to star.
When Will Forty Love Be Released?
The movie is set to get a theatrical release in France on November 25, 2026. Studiocanal is handling worldwide sales, so we’re likely to learn about US release plans soon.
