Jenna Ortega continues picking unique roles with her latest being the book adaptation Klara and the Sun. Directed by Taika Waititi and written by him, Dahvi Waller, and Kazuo Ishiguro, the film is a sci-fi drama centered around robots.
At the center of this story is Ortega’s Klara, a robot designed to prevent loneliness. And from the first trailer alone we can see that this movie allows Ortega to be the complete opposite of her Wednesday persona. There’s child-like wonder there and hope. And somehow the movie manages to have a lot of humor while examining what it means to be human but also alive.

What is Klara and the Sun based on?
The movie is based on the book of the same name by Kazuo Ishiguro, who also authored Never Let Me Go and The Remains of the Day. And the official synopsis is pretty similar, despite fans already clocking differences between the book and movie:
This is the story of Klara, an Artificial Friend with outstanding observational qualities, who, from her place in the store, watches carefully the behaviour of those who come in to browse, and of those who pass in the street outside. She remains hopeful a customer will soon choose her, but when the possibility emerges that her circumstances may change for ever, Klara is warned not to invest too much in the promises of humans.
