We watch a lot of TV and movies! And we listen to a lot of music, podcasts, audiobooks…so yeah, we’re fangirling over a lot of things! Each week we come together to highlight all the feels they give us throughout the week. On these Fangirlish Feels of the Week, there are five categories and many thoughts! Ready?
Here we go!
What You’re Fangirling Over This Week
Amanda P.: The last of this season’s Broadway shows are opening this week to meet the Tonys eligibility deadline, and let me tell you, following this season has been a constant string of pass-the-popcorn moments.
If you’d told me, three months ago, that The Heart of Rock and Roll would be getting considerably better reviews than Cabaret, I’d have laughed in your face, but here we are, and honestly, I can’t say I disagree. What a baffling (and crowded) season this has been!
Rachel: The promotional tour for Bridgerton season 3 has kicked into high gear, with the two lead actors traveling to wonderfully produced events in Australia. Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton are truly selling the season. Shondaland and Netflix are truly doing everything right that they didn’t for season 2 promotion. (Yeah, I said it.)
Ashley T.: Alien is back in the theaters this weekend for Alien Day (4/26) and The Mummy is too for its 25th anniversary! I love getting to watch older movies in the theater, so obviously a double bill is in order. Let’s do more of this, please, especially in the lull between Oscar and summer blockbuster season.
Erin: I am watching a show that comes out in May that I am telling you that everyone needs to watch and unfortunately I cant tell you what it is, but I am telling you it is good.
WTF Moment of the Week
Amanda P.: I can’t deny that I’m absolutely tickled pink at all the fun, Polin-centric Bridgerton promo we’re getting. I also can’t deny that, the more fun it is, the more the contrast with S2’s press tour stands out.
The most generous interpretation is that they learned from the failures of the S2 press and are course-correcting now…but wow, that “love triangle” and “ensemble” focus of the S2 tour was a massive disservice to Kate and Anthony as characters, and to Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley as actors.
Rachel: The overturning of one of Harvey Weinstein’s convictions by an appeals court this week was an infuriating WTF moment.
Ashley T.: What Rachel said. This is an absolute slap in the face to the victims and anyone who has experienced sexual assault. Positively evil.
Raquel: Agree with Rachel and Ashley T in this. You know something is really wrong with the system if a pig like that can get away with it. What message does that send to the victims? I work for that system in another country and seeing these types of things…let’s say it’s impossible not to lose faith in justice.
What We’re Listening to This Week
Raquel: Everyone is talking about it and I have yet to listen to TTPD, Taylor Swift’s new album. Her songs have a way of connecting with me that is magical. I just need peace of mind to be able to enjoy her music with my eyes closed.
Ashley T.: I’ve had a good time getting caught up on my podcasts this week. Here’s how my list looks: Brett Goldstein’s Films to Be Buried With, The Sackohoff Show with Katee Sackhoff, Creepy & Geeky, Donna Tha Dead, Mission Log Live, Gene-ology, and TREKtivism.
The summary of all of those is basically film talk and actor interviews, horror and Marvel movies, Star Trek, Gene Roddenberry, and Star Trek-inspired activism. I tend to measure my productivity based on how many podcasts I’ve listened to, so this week, I suppose you could say I’ve had a productive week.
Erin: Still listening to TTPD. Still loving it. I am one of the few that doesn’t care what the songs or who the songs are about. I just care that they speak to me.
Lyra: After everything that happened with TikTok losing access to some really popular artists thanks to UMG, I’ve been discovering a whole range of new artists to listen to. One that I cannot stop listening to is Benson Boone.
I haven’t listened to his whole album yet, but “Beautiful Things” is so great! I’ve also been listening to the soundtrack for Fallout on Prime Video. It fits the show but I also find myself relaxing while listening to it so that’s a win.
What We Rewatched This Week
Raquel: This week, I rewatched some incredible, brilliant, and beautiful scenes that are going to drive everyone completely out of their minds — in the best way — from a show I can’t talk about yet.
Rachel: I rewatched Dawn of the Planet of the Apes to prepare for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes next month. This second installment in Caesar’s story is better than the first, with incredible motion capture performances from Andy Serkis and Toby Kebbell and moments that are damn near Shakespearean in their interpersonal drama.
Ashley T.: It’s a triple whammy of rewatches for me this week: Tank Girl, Alien, and The Mummy. It’s always fun to revisit your favorites. 10/10 would recommend.
Erin: I have been rewatching random episodes of TVD, because I miss it so much.
Lyra: I’ve been rewatching classic horror movies. Particularly I’ve been watching classic monster horror movies. So I’ve been watching again the Alien movies. But also I’ve dabbled with things like Cloverfield or the Godzilla movies. Next up is The Mummy.
Badass Character of the Week
Raquel: Jane Tennant from NCIS: Hawai’i. Today more than ever.
Amanda P.: I haven’t really watched anything “badass” this week (yet), so I’m going to cheat and use this to shout out the casts of this year’s faltering Broadway shows — in particular, The Heart of Rock and Roll and Lempicka.
These casts are playing to shockingly small crowds, and for live theatre, which feeds so much on the energy between cast and audience, that is hard. Kudos to them for their professionalism and hard work; delivering under those circumstances could certainly be called “badass.”
Rachel: I think all the protagonists of The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare can be called badass. I thought Henry Cavill’s performance was particularly commanding, but every actor in the team he assembles and works with made their characters cool.
Alan Ritchson, Eiza Gonzalez, Alex Pettyfer, Henry Golding, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, all of them kick ass. And as “dramatized” as it may have been, it was based on true events. That’s even more badass.
Ashley T.: Just a reminder that Ripley in Alien is a complete and utter badass. I want to be as cool as her.
