The Flash SDCC 2016 Interview: Carlos Valdes

As The Flash heads into its third season, viewers are left wondering the implications that come as a result of Barry traveling back in time to save his mother in the season finale. Of course this jump-started the famous Flashpoint storyline, and obviously it’s going to have some serious repercussions on this series.

One of the characters that we can expect to take a turn because of Flashpoint is fan-favorite Cisco Ramon, who it sounds like will be taking on an even bigger role in season three.

“Viewers can expect Cisco to take on a more active role in the Team Flash dynamic,” Carlos Valdes told us during a roundtable interview at SDCC. “But also there are going to be some interesting repercussions that are raised due to Flashpoint that I think are going to test the friendship dynamics for the main members of the team.”

Cisco has always been a character that wears his emotions on his sleeve. He’s incredibly emotional and humorous, and it’s what makes him so endearing to the audience. Valdes teased that there are more emotional moments to come for Cisco, including a huge event that will shape his arc.

“Cisco is a boy at heart. He is very emotional,” he said. “That sensitivity is what drives him. He learns from his mistakes. Regardless, in spite of all of that emotional backstory there’s definitely a lot more emotional moments to come. Especially for him, there’s a big event that sort of defines his arc this season, and it’s a really emotional event that has some really traumatic implications for him.”

While Valdes can’t tell us too much about what Flashpoint holds in store, what does he hope to see as a result of Flashpoint?

“I hope that Barry can get over himself and not act so impulsively,” he said. “He has this knack for letting his emotions get the best of him – and that’s fine because he’s a human being and that’s what defines him as a hero. It allows him to make these epic mistakes, these epic fails.”

Watch our interview with Valdes below where he discusses Cisco’s growing powers, the dynamic between Cisco and Harry, and more.

The Flash season three premieres Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 8/7c on The CW.
