When it comes to the many familiar faces in the superhero universe on the CW, Victor Garber is one of those names that sometimes leaves you feeling so blessed to have an actor of that caliber. Garber’s resume is impressive, but his involvement in a superhero show is surprising to say the least. So how did Garber make his foray into the superhero genre?
“It’s really simple: Greg Berlanti,” Garber told us during a roundtable interview at SDCC. “We worked together on Eli Stone. I loved that experience so much when Greg called and said, We want you to do a few episodes for Flash, as this character Firestorm, which I had no idea…I didn’t know anything about this genre. I’m joking, but it’s actually true.
“So I didn’t know what I was getting into, and then I watched a couple episodes of The Flash and of course thought, This is delightful,” Garber continued. “Two of my old friends Tom Cavanagh and Jesse Martin were on it. And I thought Grant Gustin was one of the most fantastic talents. So I said yes. I had no idea it was going to lead to this.”

One of the more endearing relationships on Legends of Tomorrow is that between Martin Stein and Jax Jackson, who make up Firestorm. Their relationship has been far from perfect, but it’s its imperfections and genuine caring that makes it resonate. A huge part of that rests with the relationship between Garber and Franz Drameh.
“It was very easy with Franz because first of all he’s so young,” Garber said. “He’s like a pistol. He’s one of those the most talented people I’ve ever met. I’m slightly intimidated by him because he can do anything. He’s fearless; physically and vocally…I just have a real love for him that is very easy to have that relationship.”
