Well, an exorcism couldn’t get Kristen to believe that some kind of higher power existed… so perhaps, a prophet will?
In this week’s episode of Evil, entitled “Let x=9”, we see the church send David, Kristen, and Ben to a daycare, where a lady by the name of Grace says that God speaks to her.
Now, a couple of things happen in this week’s episode that I really enjoyed.
For one, it seems like Kristen is maybe opening up to the idea of religion and what it all entails. The fact that she asked Kristen about Laura, I think proves that.
Secondly, I think it’s absolutely great that David has come clean to… someone that’s he’s doing drugs in order to “see God again.” Mind you, I think Kristen handled it so well; both when she was actually in the room, and when David told her why he was acting like that.
And secondly- badass Kristen! I almost cheered, audibly when I watched her cut Leland. Because you know what? He’s a little cockroach that needs to be taught a lesson! Even he seemed completely shocked that she actually cut him, and I am here for it. Seeing Kristen stick up for the people she loves is something I can definitely get behind.
My qualms with the show, however, stay the same.
I’m a sucker for a good plot, and nothing really seems to be happening. Every week we have another case for the team to go and investigate, and every couple of episodes, Leland comes and starts up a shit show. I’m just not sure what the show is working towards. There hasn’t really been a hint of any of it, and I do hope that whatever the plot is, it’s not rushed within the last 3 episodes of the season.
Leland’s motivations stay ambiguous at best. He, and no one else, either – has not mentioned the 60 in a couple of episodes, but I do wonder if they have anything to do with the end of the world that was prophesied by Grace and that magical book of prophecies. Also: what exactly is the play here with Sheryl? Is it to seduce her, and turn her against Kristen? What exactly did the imagery mean at the end of the episode that showed the bed on fire? Was it sexual fire- or like… hellfire?
And where exactly is Kristen’s husband?
We saw him in one of her dreams- or nightmares, which I guess is cool, but I just want to know what his deal is. Is he alive? Is he dead? Do they even love each other anymore? And what exactly does Kristen think of her attraction to David while her husband is gone?
Micro cheating is a thing now, you know.
Just saying.
The show is pretty much at its halfway mark, with only a 13 episode order. It has already been renewed for a season 2, so I think we’ll see some shocking cliff hangers for the winter finale. I think I’m going stick it out- only out of curiosity now, and see if any of my questions get answered.
What do you think? Will we ever find out just how the world will end now that a mean guard has thrown away Grace’s drawings?
