Chicago P.D. 9×12 “To Protect” focuses on Voight and his new CI, but it will hopefully also highlight what we hope are new dynamics within the team. Otherwise, what was the first half of the season for? Voight hasn’t had a chance to prove that the so-called redemption arc he got was worth it, so I guess we all watch and wait.
Not that I have any hopes nine seasons in he can actually change, but we shall see if he’s around for the antagonism or because he’s finally ready to be the boss this unit deserves.

The team works together to identify the head of the brutal Los Temidos gang. Voight dives deeper into his informant Anna Avalos’ past when her undercover role is threatened.

Lies was an Atwater and case centric episode. No one was pushed off screen as much as Jay was in that episode. One could be excused for thinking he wasn’t even in the episode. There was one detail that could foreshadow future episodes. Jay and Hailey are always paired together and are in the same vehicle when “the team is in position” to take down suspects, except when one of them is under cover. In Lies, Hailey was alone in her car and Jay was with Hank- a possible indication of the new dynamic between Hank and Jay that was set up in “A Way Out.” This next episode may not be about Hank, but center on Hank and Jay’s new relationship. I’m a little surprised because my suspicion was that they would hold off on this but finish the season with a 3 or 4 episode arc exploring this and have Hank at a cross roads in the season finale with the cliff hanger centering on him. I still Expect that Season 9 will end that way.
