Upload has returned and the dive back into the metaverse still has me a little freaked out, but also loving every minute. What can I say? Watching Robbie Amell isn’t exactly hard work.
But he’s not the whole reason that I love Upload. It’s more because it’s about what could be, but still having genuine connections with people despite time, distance, or you know being alive.
Technology is a scary thing, one that at its very best of times can still lead to a painful realization that things are always changing and what is important is that we are able to step away from technology and have real life connections.
But it doesn’t matter – real life or the meta verse, everything can hurt.
We’re picking up right where we left off with Upload – Nathan still in 2G, left frozen in the basement. Nora’s on the run with her Dad heading to a place where technology isn’t accepted. Ingrid is still annoying and well, you still have no idea where this is going.
Nora’s been picked up by Byron and whiles she’s waiting for her Dad, he’s inside a hotel lobby booking a room. Nora isn’t sticking around for long – she’s ready to get a move on. So her and her Dad head out into the middle of the woods, to a camp. A camp that is totally supposed to be off grid and allows no technology.
But before they go in, she tries Nathan one more time. She’s not aware of the fact that he’s frozen in 2G, so I am not surprised that she just thinks that she’s getting ignored. And hey, that would hurt anyone.
Nathan and Nora have a special connection and it’s the chemistry between these two that has really propelled the show forward. It’s been important to see these two together for this viewer, because it was what pulled me into the show. Yes, yes – I love a ship. And these two are everything.
But with Nora at a camp and totally off the grid, how is he ever supposed to get ahold of her. But when he comes back, the first thing he thinks of is Nora. He’s worried because she was being chased, and he can’t figure out if she is okay. And it doesn’t help him feel better when he calls for Angel and her co-worker comes letting him know that no one has seen Nora for weeks. They were told that she was on leave, but everyone knows that is wrong.
Meanwhile, Nora has adapted to the camp. She’s enjoying being offline and not having to deal with everything. She’s loved farming and showing people how great life can be there. And hey, she’s also met a cute new guy, Matteo. It’s got whit, charm, and likes her.
Matteo and Nora could be great together. I mean, if this is where she wants to end up with her life. And right now, that is what I am doubting. She may not believe in uploading but she does believe in and love Nathan.
Nathan, oh dumb, dumb Nathan. He’s in a bad situation. He doesn’t deal with things in the smartest of ways and by what he’s doing he’s making it obvious to Ingrid that he’s not totally, 100% invested in her. He hasn’t been that way for awhile. But Ingrid has always been hanging on.
And how is Nathan supposed to turn away when she is paying for him being there and when she legitimately died and uploaded herself to be with him. She then leaves him frozen for two weeks when she redid their suite.
Ingrid has gained a reputation for being high maintenance and annoys everyone. But she tells Nathan that she’s going to prove to him that he should fall back in love with her. She’s quite good at saying the wrong words, but somehow manages to speak words that has Nathan falling into bed with her.
And hey, it just would be at that point that Nora has gotten to technology and manages to see Nathan, as a cat, and sees him crawling out of bed, right next to Ingrid.
I want to believe that Nathan and Nora will be together. I do. Don’t know how that could possibly happen unless they manager to download his consciousness into someone else or a clone. Who knows?
You can’t help but feel bad for both Nathan and Nora in this whole situation. It grows to show that you can and will fall in love with someone for their heart and ethics and standard and it’s not all just based on the physical.
Nathan and Nora have had a connection since they met and it’s one that is so much deeper than the surface. I love the way that they connect and the way that each one of them has a soft spot for each other despite the obvious obstacle.
But with this episode they are both set up to live separate lives and I am honestly not sure how much I like that. I know that it’s part of a story and this sets it up perfectly for so many storyline possibilities. Sure, this means that we’ll go through some pain and heartache to get there, but again, something I am completely okay with.
When you love a show as much as I love this one, I am here for the ups and downs. I’m here for the slow burn, even when it takes us to a place I am not sure I am okay with.
Season 2 of Upload is streaming on Amazon Prime Video now.
