One of the things that we’ve loved so much about Conversations With Friends coming out is that we’ve gotten to hear a lot from Joe Alwyn. He’s opened up a lot while doing press, but has also remained very private.
We love a celebrity who knows how to give us information while truly telling us nothing big or new, but makes us feel like we’re learning something ground breaking. That’s the sign of talent and a great media trainer.
Don’t even think we’re kidding. Media training is an important thing.
While making the rounds through media, Alwyn was on The Kelly Clarkson Show. He spoke about his songwriting pseudonym, William Bowery and why he didn’t use his name.
“We chose to do it so the people, first and foremost, would listen to the music first before dissecting the fact that we did it together,” he shared on the show. Which hey, is smart, because lets all be honest, we would have flipped out 10x as much had it had his real name.
“We did it under the name William Bowery, very fancy,” Alwyn continued.
But where did the name come from. Well, Swifties, you all were right when you guessed where it came from.
“It was a combination of William, my great-grandfather, who I actually never met, was a composer. He wrote a lot of classical music and he wrote a lot of film scores. And then Bowery is the area in New York that I spent a lot of time in when I first went over there. So, stick ’em together.” he explained to the talk show host.
We love that he confirmed everything, but we’re not shocked that Swifties were right. They can honestly figure out most anything and we love their FBI level skills.
Conversations with Friends is streaming now on Netflix.
