“You are cordially invited to a nightmare generations in the making.”
We love a good vampire story, and they are so rare. Recently though, it feels as if vampires for lack of a better word are being reborn. With films like Morbius, Netflix series First Kill, and the upcoming adaptation of Interview With the Vampire for AMC, it’s like a group of vampire fans said “hey, let’s kickstart this genre again.” And you know what? We are not complaining about this. That’s why we’re really looking forward to The Invitation.
For those of you who are not familiar with this film, The Invitation which was originally titled The Bride when it was announced last May, stars Game of Thrones’ Nathalie Emmanuel and Thomas Doherty (Replacing previously cast Garrett Hedlund). The film directed by Jessica M. Thompson has quite the interesting premise.
After the death of her mother and having no other known relatives, Evie (Emmanuel) takes a DNA test…and discovers a long-lost cousin she never knew she had. Invited by her newfound family to a lavish wedding in the English countryside, she’s at first seduced by the sexy aristocrat host Walter (Doherty) but is soon thrust into a nightmare of survival as she uncovers twisted secrets in her family’s history and the unsettling intentions behind their sinful generosity.

See interesting right? The idea that Jessica M. Thompson and Blair Butler came up with a film like this that stems from something as simple as doing one of those home DNA tests is pretty wild. We all have questions about where we come from, but we might not like the answer. That seems to be what’s going to happen to Evie and we’re intrigued.

This film looks so good. Looking at this trailer, it gives off a mix of Ready or Not meets Get Out meets Dracula. The cast looks amazing and we’re already obsessed with the cinematography. The Invitation was shot in Budapest Hungary and the locations are stunning.

This movie looks like it is going to have just the right amount of darkness and sexiness. Those are all things that I look for in a good vampire film so I am beyond ready for this one to drop. And speaking of sexiness, how sexy, does Thomas Doherty look? Yes, I know he’s a vampire baddie, but I would not decline his invitation. Also, we may have re-watched the trailer a couple times to swoon over him and Nathalie because their chemistry is already fire. #SorryNotSorry.
In addition to Nathalie Emmanuel and Thomas Doherty, The Invitation also stars Sean Pertwee, Stephanie Corneliussen, and Alana Boden.
