There is nothing I love more than a movie set in a castle, with royalty, and really bad accents. I absolutely treasure the way that these movies are so bad that they are fabulous. Royal Corgi Christmas takes the cake in that genre and we’re loving the trashiness and the craziness.
It’s upped the anti, because it’s added dogs. Corgi’s no less and those dogs are adorable. Yes, it had the usual – playboy Prince, Christmas ball, parent wanting to abdicate their throne. And all of these things I can respect.
Hunter King and Jordan Renzo star in the all new Hallmark film, Royal Corgi Christmas. The first thing that I have to say is that I have seen The Spanish Princess and I would like to apologize to Jordan Renzo that I don’t know who he is.
I do now.
In the movie, “Crown Prince Edmond (Renzo) is a reluctant royal who returns home just before Christmas in anticipation of being named successor to the throne. To ingratiate himself to his mother the Queen (Susannah De Wrixon), he gifts her with Mistletoe, a rambunctious Corgi pup in need of some serious training. After several doggy disasters, Edmond turns to Cecily (King), a canine behavior expert from America for help. To his great surprise, Cecily insists that he take an active part in the daily dog training sessions. As Prince Edmond and Cecily work together to get Mistletoe ready to present at the annual Christmas Ball, sparks begin to fly between them. Just as the precious pup captures their hearts, they discover that love can grow in the most unexpected places, leading each of them to question what they really want in life.”
Cecily just wants to save animals and needs to raise money so that she can launch her rescue. Edmond is on the other side of the world and he’s come home, bringing his mama, the Queen a gift. A new corgi. Now this Corgi isn’t of a royal blood line, but Edmond’s doing his best to make things right with his Mom.
Edmond is misunderstood. He hasn’t known how to be the heir or even if he wanted to be. In my opinion, he hasn’t wanted to be home because he misses his father. He doesn’t know how to deal with grief and being back in the castle makes him remember how he felt.
But life has to move forward and it has. The Queen wants to step down and announce his ascension. Only that is not sure what he wants. But as he makes his presence known, what happens is that the Corgi, Mistletoe, makes a mess by pulling food onto the ground and the video goes viral.
The pressure on Edmond is a lot. His Mom is telling him to take it seriously, that he needs to change his image. That he needs to get to know is his subjects and he needs to get to know them. He seems a little freaked out, but also thinks that he can change this whole situation by getting Mistletoe trained and show the world that he’s changed.
Enter Cecily. Her agent reached out to offer her services to train Mistletoe. Her agent is a royal watcher and puts together this book on the family to try and help. But, Cecily doesn’t want to be a part of that binder. She’s there to do a job and that job is to train the dog.
Edmond quickly learns that he needs to be a part of the training and seems somewhat annoyed by that and yet, the more he gets to know Cecily, the more he is taken with her.
The only person who isn’t take by her is the corgi trainer to the royal dogs. He’s been dating Edmond’s sister on the down low and wants her to be Queen. I don’t think that he actually likes her, I just believe that he wants power.
The truth is that we always have a villain in a movie and a hero. I know that the villain is the trainer, but I honestly feel like there are so many heroes in this story, that it makes it a movie that you just start rooting for everyone.
And you are believing in everyone.
Edmond for his ability to change and his want to persevere.
The Queen for wanting to see the good in her child and believing in her son.
Victoria for keeping the monarch together, even when she wants to tell it off.
Cecily for wanting to do the best job, but finding her home in Edmond and more than that – in herself.
All of them are heroes.
Mistletoe has become a local celebrity and the press want to televise the Queens speech now. Edmond and Cecily have worked so hard on training Mistletoe to be ready, that they are excited for the possibilities of the country accepting Edmond as their next ruler.
But Edmond doesn’t want to rule and tells his Mom that she should choose Victoria. For Edmond, his love for Cecily is the one thing that he is sure of. That is until that shitty ass trainer steals the binder that her manager had made and gives it to Edmond.
I hate the trainer. And Victoria makes it known how pissed she is when she tells him off. She is thrilled to just have her family together and the Christmas that she’s always wanted. Victoria has been a pinnacle of strength, but personally, not sure how she’s holding up.
What I loved so much about this movie is the royalty, but it’s the way that all of these characters have a connection that seems to be unfailing and seems to be something that is strong and never changing. Edmond may tell Cecily that he knows about the notebook and that everything was a lie, but he also knows that he loves her.
It’s the Queen that gives him the talk that he needed to hear – Cecily may have made her mistakes. She’s made a lot of them, but she stayed, because she genuinely loves Edmond. She’s gotten to know the man that he is. Most of all Edmond found a home.
When you find your person, it just happens. It changes you. Doesn’t matter their station or yours. What matters is the way that you feel. What matters is the way that your heart comes alive.
It’s Hallmark – so we know that they get together at the end. It’s a royal ball and fairytales and hard times and finding your way. It’s all filled with hope and hope is a beautiful thing.
And again, there’s nothing wrong with a fairytale and a fairytale ending, right?
