This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, tv shows and movies being covered in Fangirlish Feels of the Week wouldn’t exist. We stand with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA.
We watch a lot of TV and movies! And we read a lot of books too, not to mention the time we spend on TikTok. In case all the reviews, interviews, news, and features didn’t give you a clue (wink, wink), we come together to highlight all those great moments that our favorite shows, movies, and books give us throughout the week. On these Fangirlish Feels of the Week, there are five categories and many thoughts! Ready?
Here we go!
Moment that made you collapse into a puddle of FEELS
Rachel: The moment when Jaime and his family hugged after the fight was over in Blue Beetle. “Now, we cry.” DON’T MIND IF I DO. I enjoyed the whole film so much, but that moment was incredible.
Amanda: I started watching World on Fire season two this week, and honestly, what part didn’t make me collapse into a puddle of some sort of feels? The show hasn’t actually aired in the U.S. yet, so I won’t say anything too specific, but I’m two episodes in, and this empath is feeling all the feels.
Erin: I keep rewatching the final episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty and crying when Conrad slides down the wall, after he says he is going back to Cousins! Justice for Conrad from his brother please. Jeremiah did him dirty.
Jasmine: Okay, I’m easy. Leave me alone but, on Wednesday’s episode of General Hospital Spencer went to the Jerome Gallery where his girlfriend Trina works. She’s been dealing with a lot of stress because her biological father is now paralyzed after he was shot. She’s trying to be supportive of her mom who he has shut out of his life.
Trina is overwhelming herself and placing her parents burdens on herself. Spencer saw that the stress was getting to her so he came up to her and wrapped his arms around her from behind to provide comfort. I know it’s cheesy but that’s something I’ve wanted to see for a LONG time. It made me swoon and I’m still not over it.
Lizzie: I loved Blue Beetle a lot, like I said in my review, but the thing that made me really emotional were the easter eggs. From Maria la del Barrio, to El Chapulín Colorado to the more serious nods to The School of the Americas, it was clear this was a movie by latinos, for latinos, and it made me seriously teary-eyed to see.
WTF Moment of the Week
Rachel: Learning how the negotiations between the WGA and AMPTP are going. We all knew the AMPTP were greedy but the condescending arrogance was at a new level.
Shana: The thing about Foundation is it very much knows how to end an episode with WTF. I’ll…yeah. Leaving that there so people have time to watch.
Erin: WTF has been going on with Scooter Braun. Not sad to see people leave him – after all he did Taylor dirty and well, he deserves all the karma that hits him. Ass.
Amanda and Ashley: We saw this TikTok and were literally so confused, because we’ve lived in Illinois our whole lives and have been to Wendy’s countless times. Where did this person get their information?
Jasmine: Yes, you guessed it, I’m pulling from my General Hospital bag yet again. While Spencer was with Trina at the Jerome Gallery, he got a text from his baby brothers mama Esme (who is his ex-girlfriend) asking if he’s going to be home for dinner…. The way the line is delivered made it feel like Trina was some side-chick and Esme Was his wife. Yuck. Talk about a bad writing choice.
Lizzie: What Rachel said, every time I see what the AMPTP is offering I’m literally like WTF.
Lyra: Riverdale. Why are you the way you are? Even at the end. You were weird. You were wild. And you really tried to sell these 30 year olds as teens. But this last bullshit with the past is the biggest grievance.
No one (besides Choni of course) ends up together and apparently Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead were in a quad for a year? But no kissing or smooching between Archie and Jughead?! Basura. GIVE US ALL THE GAY! Oh, and let’s not forget how you reminded me of how dirty Josie was done on this show. Never gonna forgive that. But I will definitely forget about this show entirely.
Ashley T.: Similarly to Rachel and Lizzie, the CEO of Netflix is apparently concerned that if they give a “fair deal” to writers and actors in the US that they’ll have to do it for other territories too. You mean paying people fairly for their hard work is a thing you DON’T want to do? Greed is evil, so queue up your Michael Scott memes and strike even harder, SAG-AFTRA/WGA folks.
Tik Tok That Made Me LOL
Shana: I just…my humor is dark, ok?
Amanda: When I came across this on my FYP, I thought, “TikTok really said FOR YOU page” and then laughed and cried because it was unbelievably accurate. For a second, I had to ask myself how old I am to see how accurate it was, and it’s literally so spot on. It’s always nice to know you aren’t alone in your fangirling!
Lizzie: I’m living for the people discovering Suits after all this time. LIVING.
Lyra: This is definition of a cursed TikTok that had me dying but also promising to NEVER watch it again. You’ve been warned.
What We’re Reading This Week
Rachel: I’m a huge Jane Austen fan and there is a LOT of Austen-related fiction out there. RIght now, I’m reading Diana Birchall’s The Bride of Northanger. The premise is more of a mystery than most Austen sequels and variations.
Amanda: I failed to finish rereading Red, White & Royal Blue before the film came out on Amazon Prime, so I am still rereading it. 😂
Erin: Don’t Forget to Write by Sarah Goodman Cofino. It’s so beautifully written and the characters jump off the page.
Ashley T.: IDW just released a new comic series: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: The Scorpius Run. The first issue hit comic book stores this week, and it’s setting up to be a fun adventure. Plus, it’s all about fancy flying, so you best bet my girl Lt. Erica Ortegas is taking point at the helm. I’ll take #MORETEGAS any way I can get it until season three gets here.
What We Rewatched This Week
Rachel: Finished rewatching the first season of The Wheel of Time. Will always be a Lan/Nynaeve shipper.
Erin: I rewatched Sweet Home Alabama. You know how you have a movie that you will rewatch over and over again? That’s mine. Something about it makes me believe in the power of love and I adore that.
Shana: So, I burned through seasons 3 and 4 in my Suits rewatch and started the beginning of season 5. Between Louis in his absolute villain era and, uh…Liberty Rail…I am emotionally wrecked. As always. I hate these stupid characters and this stupid show. (They are very precious to me. I will fight anyone who disrespects them.)
Ashley T.: I rewatched Tank Girl (1995) this week. It’s a movie I only watched for the first time back in March when it was assigned to me for an episode of Sci-Fi 5. I fell in love with it for a lot of different reasons, but mostly because it’s so wild and weird. It was so ahead of its time, and is still very relevant.
It’s basically if Birds of Prey (2020) had a baby with Mad Max: Fury Road and that baby drove a tank. If you want a quick, spoiler-free overview of the film listen to my episode of Sci-Fi 5.
You can also watch it yourself. It’s currently streaming for free with ads on TubiTV and PlutoTV. If you’re a fan of Margot Robbie’s take on Harley Quinn, then I think you’d have a good time with Tank Girl. Bonus: you get to see a very young Naomi Watts as Jet Girl!
