Okay, look, we’ve been struggling here. One Chicago has been struggling. We’re not going to lie, it’s been hard. Mostly because we’ve gotten absolutely nothing, so no matter what you like, you’ve just been stuck replaying old stuff. So, the news that Taylor Kinney is coming back to Chicago Fire was like hearing angels sing.
But, also, with Nick Gehlfuss the latest Chicago Med departure, and the already announced departure of Tracy Spiridakos on Chicago P.D. during the upcoming Season 11 of that show, anything else would just have been like adding insult to injury. Even if Chicago Fire did have Jesse Spencer return for the Season 11 finale (though we don’t know if he’ll be back for the Season 12 premiere, or for longer, or if Kara Killmer is also returning or if she’s also leaving or what …but considering Spencer’s Matt Casey ended the season proposing to Killmer’s Sylvie Brett, at the very least we’re going to need to see those two on-screen together again), the show just doesn’t feel like Chicago Fire without Taylor Kinney’s Kelly Severide.
And long-term, we were never sure it would work without Severide and Stellaride.
But now, thankfully, we don’t have to worry about that. Season 11 ended with Stella going to get her husband, and she will bring him back where he belongs. And hopefully, we’ll get an explanation of why this, of all storylines, was the one they needed to explain Taylor’s absence. Actors can need time. That part is understandable.
The fact that One Chicago constantly chooses the same nonsensical excuses isn’t. Some originality, guys, come on. If you need ideas, I’m sure the fandom can give you some. And if we get that, and some of the things that made this show and this ship as beloved as they have been for so many seasons, well …maybe we can not forgive, but perhaps forget.
Give us some good content and maybe we’ll consider it.

I might be in the minority here but I wasn’t to sad to see the lack of Severide onscreen last season. Yes, I missed seeing Taylor Kinney but the lack of movement for Severide these past few seasons has made the character a little stale for me. I was actually excited to see Cruz take charge of squad this past season and I’m hoping they continue to lean into that and that he’s not thrown back into the background this season.
I’m sorry but I don’t believe that Stellaride is the foundation of the show. Don’t get me wrong, I love Stellaride!!!! But for me Brettsey is the better love story, because it doesn’t have as much drama!!!! The show did just fine when there was no Stellaride, where as the show really suffered without Brettsey!!!! Jesse needs to return even if it’s part time as a recurring guest star 8-10 episodes a season!!!! He brings a certain energy to the show and Sylvie and Matt needs each other!!!!
