A lot was going on in the trailer for Season 2 of House of the Dragon. One might even say too much was going on. There were some very obvious hints at what’s coming, things book readers will very easily pick up. Other things, however, were much more subtle. So, while we sit here and wait for the Season 2 premiere — in the Summer of 2024, let’s go over the little things you might have missed in the House of the Dragon Season 2 trailer. Starting with …
Harrenhal
That Daemon is ready for war in Season 2 of House of the Dragon should be a surprise to no one. And Daemon thrives in war. That much we know. We know from Fire & Blood he attacks Harrenhal pretty early on in the war, and from a few frames in the trailer — including one of the Daemon swinging a sword and one of the army, it seems pretty clear we’ll see that in Season 2, and that Harrenhal will be a pretty pivotal location. Now, let’s remember who the Lord of Harrenhal right now is. Oh yes, Larys Strong.
Is this …The Battle at Rook’s Rest?
Fans have been wondering what the big battle of the season would be since the season was announced, and though the trailer doesn’t confirm it, it seems to point towards Rook’s Rest. It’s not the most pivotal battle of the war, but it’s still a pretty big one, with consequences for each side — and almost as importantly, a lot has to happen to get there. This means we can probably expect a breakneck pace in Season 2 — except without any time jumps this time.
Back to the North
The North is set to play a big part in House of the Dragon — and it all starts with Jacaerys and his visit to Winterfell in Season 2, which we will get to see. There’s a blink-and-you-‘ll-miss-it moment of the North in the trailer, and though the trailer puts a lot more focus on the dragons and the family in-fighting, we can never forget about the Starks in the world of Game of Thrones.
Blood and Cheese
This is a show where bad things happen, let’s start there. And a bad thing happened to Lucerys Velaryon. Rhaenyra and especially Daemon are not the kind to just let that go. Hold onto that thought as you prepare for Season 2 and Blood and Cheese, which is likely to be one of the most disturbing — and probably memorable — moments in Game of Thrones history.
Baela Targaryen
In what seems to be a departure from the books — this is likely Baela Targaryen at Rook’s Rest, and honestly — considering GRRM kinda forgets about Daemon’s daughters in the books, we’re all in for this change. Baela is set to be the Queen of Westeros, as things stand. So why shouldn’t a Queen get on her dragon and fight for what she believes in?
