Welcome to the I’m Not Yelling, I’m Latina Podcast! Join us (Lizzie and Lyra) as we set out into the dastardly waters of podcast life on a new adventure! Do we know what we’re doing? Ehhhh debatable. But is it going to be fun? Absolutely! We’ve spent years yelling at each other about a multitude of shows, films, and ships. And it’s time to put that energy into something ours. A place where we can yell, geek out, and (of course) be unapologetic fangirls!
So far, I’m Not Yelling, I’m Latina Podcast has done a Meet the Hosts episode all about who we are, a love letter to Netflix’s Outer Banks, and the good, bad, and epic of Shadow and Bone season 2, our love for Kacy from NCIS: Hawai’i, the tragedy of Tedbecca from Ted Lasso, and Loki season 2. This time Lizzie and Lyra discuss reboots, revivals, and remakes.
In our first podcast of 2024, Lizzie and Lyra break down how it feels like Hollywood is on a one-track mind where they create new versions of much-beloved or just well-known properties. Instead of giving new content a chance, there’s a new version of The X-Files coming via Ryan Coogler, Ghostbusters is getting another sequel, and Disney movies are getting live-action versions. And then there’s the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe. It feels lazy. It feels safe. And it feels like Hollywood has given up on trying to be creative.
Our distaste for reboots, revivals, and remakes doesn’t mean that we can’t see the benefits that come from bringing back a beloved property and changing it up when it comes to casting. They did it with One Day at a Time with a Latine family. The same thing goes for Halle Bailey in the live-action The Little Mermaid. These reboots, revivals, and remakes make people feel seen. But at the same time, we question how Hollywood balances it all and whether they’re going for what’s easy instead of allowing BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and other communities to tell their own unique stories, tales, and legends.
So please, sit back and enjoy our episode of I’m Not Yelling, I’m Latina Podcast! P.S. We even came up with a list of shows we never want to see again. We’re looking at you Gilmore Girls!
