It’s sometimes hard to put into words all the things that you want to say about a finale because you’re unsure what you thought. This season of FOUND has had its ups and downs. But there is nothing about that statement that is surprising because that’s all shows. Especially in its first season. But FOUND, even with its ups and downs has moved forward and delivered a season finale that left our jaws on the floor.
Missing While Forgotten left us with several cliffhangers – ones that we saw coming and ones that we definitely did not.
You see, Gabi wanting to come forward and confess everything didn’t really shock us, as she loves her team. But what did shock us was that Sir escaped the basement.
Gabi and Sir raised and have raised so many questions for us. They’ve made us think a lot about how important therapy is to heal from trauma and how these two need to go so desperately. Maybe it’s because at the time of their initial traumas – Sir’s as a child, Gabi’s as a teen – that they didn’t go. Going to therapy wasn’t something they did back then. But they needed it.
Sir escaping the basement was due to his fear of Gabi being lost and his desire to save her. Sure. But more than that, I believe that it was him wanting to assert to Gabi that she can’t escape him. It doesn’t matter what happens, he believes that she is his and always will be. He believes that they are meant to be together, which is even more demented knowing that he was her teacher. He was supposed to protect her.
Instead, he’s continuously harming her. She’s also harming herself.
But the thing is Gabi has been enabled. She thought that she was invincible because she had won. She’s had Sir in the basement. She’s solving cases. She’s protecting Lacey. She’s doing all of these things and lying to everyone in her path, except for Dahn.
As she’s having to come face to face with Sir escaping, an important case comes along. It’s one that Gabi feels that she has to solve as the little girl told her that she wanted to be just like her. It’s one that she feels she has to solve because the trail went cold and then this little girl’s trail suddenly became warm. She was spotted in a train station.
Now because of all that is going on with Sir, she’s become so intense that everyone can see that something is very wrong. Gabi isn’t hiding her emotions well and she’s become more angry than usual. It’s quite annoying to see how she’s treating people and quite shocking that they’re all putting up with it.
Margaret gets ahold of Dahn, who isn’t there, and he tells her that he can’t say anything, but she figures out that it’s about Sir. How Margaret is able to figure out things, I would normally say is unbelievable. But the way that they’ve built up her character makes it easier for me to believe that she would need to confirm what she knows.
Then again, knowing what Dahn knows about kidnappers and Sir, makes it hard for me to believe that he would think that Sir left the country. We all know there is no way he’s leaving. We also know that Gabi’s right when she says that they need to protect Lacey. That he will come for Lacey.
Though Lacey no longer wants to be living her life in fear of Sir, it won’t be something that just fades. She’s going to continuously feel that fear. We can appreciate the fact that she wants to be free from the past, but it’s just not something that happens overnight.
And her thinking that she’s okay terrifies me. It terrifies me because Lacey is going to make mistakes and if she can’t be saved, then it will destroy Gabi. It will destroy the team.
One thing that anyone who watches FOUND can’t deny is that each one of these characters has a superpower. It’s the way that they all see things that allow them to find solutions. It’s their different approaches to things that propel them forward.
Probably the most moving moment in this episode is the moment that we find out that Zeke’s kidnapper was his Uncle. He hadn’t told anyone, not even his parents. He’s kept it in because he doesn’t want to hurt them. I broke down in tears because well, it’s honestly one of the most moving moments and it’s something that blew me away.
It also made me physically ill.
It does help the team figure out where the girl who was missing is. Her Grandmother took her because she was being abused. She wanted to protect her. The little girl was too afraid to tell her father that her Stepmother was abusing her. She wanted to protect her father.
It saddened me to watch for so many reasons because it dealt with so many things that are so wrong with this country. CPS officials were being paid off to cover up abuse, family kidnappings, and more. It was a lot to watch. It was a lot to see, but mostly because you know that things like this happen in reality and it made me feel helpless.
Not to mention the next parts of this show – where Trent wants to know what she’s hiding, where Lacey’s dog is being poisoned, where Gabi tries to kiss Trent and he turns her down because he needs answers.
My only complaint with this episode is when Gabi tells the team about Sir we don’t hear the conversation. We just see their anger and disappointment as they all leave. We see their pain. Can’t look away from what is happening, but in the same breath, blown away by how each of these actors is conveying everything with their facial expressions.
This ending left me, in physical pain. Which believe it or not is a good thing. I felt so deeply and not every show can make a viewer do that.
This ending left me scared, seeing Sir in Lacey’s apartment. What will happen next? Definitely can’t wait to find out!
Season 2 of FOUND, now please!
