To build a space for queer people like myself, every Saturday I’ll be posting interviews, opinion pieces (like this Cate Blanchett one), listicles, reviews, and more focused on the LGBT community from a Latina perspective. Welcome to Queerly Not Straight!
Enjoy and leave a comment below if you have a suggestion for what I should cover next. P.S. I, Lyra Hale, do not give any site permission to copy or repost my work in any form. If you are reading this on any site besides Fangirlish, it has been stolen.
Borderlands live-action adaptation sees Cate Blanchett‘s continued attack on our senses, minds, and souls. She plays Lilith, one of five hunters on an abandoned planet named Pandora. They’re on the hunt for some mysterious relic. And it’s all based on the characters from the video games of the same name. That’s all I know about this movie. But you better believe that I will be seated on August 9, 2024. And it’s all because of Cate Blanchett.
Ever since I was first introduced to her in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, I knew I was done. I already knew I wasn’t straight thanks to The Mummy. (If you know, you know.) But Blanchett sealed the deal when it came to me liking ethereal-looking women who could destroy me or that I would let destroy me with one glance. And that continued over the years with Hanna, Cinderella, and a bunch of other movies. So here’s a friendly reminder where we can all join hands and cry over the way that this actress transforms herself into these characters and straight into our hearts.
1. Galadriel from The Lord of the Rings
2. Marissa Wiegler from Hanna
The red hair was transformative and so was the way she commanded the room. Sure, she was evil. But everyone’s got problems, right?
3. Stepmother from Cinderella
This movie had no business serving up stunning looks that made me question whose side I was truly on. The side of compassion or a woman constantly serving charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent.
4. Carol Aird from Carol
Fashion, mystery, and those intense looks. Enough said.
5. Hela from Thor: Ragnarok
How was I supposed to cheer for Thor when Hela was right there? Sorry, not sorry but Odin was a jerk and she was right.
6. Lou from Ocean’s Eight
Every outfit in this movie was a crime against sapphics. And let’s not forget the way she can’t sit straight. If you know, you know.
7. Lilith Ritter from Nightmare Alley
Do I remember what happened in this movie? No. But look at her in these shadows and dramatic entrances. Excellent.
