Star Trek: Prodigy 2×19 “Ouroboros, Part 1” is the beginning of the end. We’ve got several epic battles! We must figure out the exact right time and place to send back the Protostar. Not to mention there is an epic standoff with Ascencia’s forces. Also, this episode is a tough watch if you’re afraid of heights. Our penultimate episode is a lot to take in. Here are a few of my thoughts on Star Trek: Prodigy 2×19 “Ouroboros, Part 1.”

For the Kids
For the kids in the audience, Star Trek: Prodigy 2×19 “Ouroboros, Part 1” has a lot of great action set pieces. The face-off between Gwyn and Ascencia is intense and epic. Also, all the falling from high places that they did during that fight scene was pretty intense for me, as someone with a fear of heights.
Additionally, Murf’s smackdown with Drednok is the stuff of WWE Smackdown. First of all, Drednok is crazy scary-looking. He’s like a robot hybrid of a spider, a scorpion, and an octopus. He would have haunted my nightmares as a kid. All of Murf’s moves look like they are straight out of the wrestling ring, especially when he pulls his arms back and slingshots himself at Drednok. It’s still funny to watch because Murf is so cute compared to Drednok looking so scary. The contrast helps to relieve the scene’s tension while still being exciting to watch for kids, and frankly, it was pretty dang fun as an adult too.

For the Adults
Star Trek: Prodigy 2×19 “Ouroboros, Part 1” has some great high-stakes action, not to mention a great use of science! Now, I’m no scientist, but I especially enjoyed hearing our young crew of brainiacs work out the solution to our problem. One of the things I enjoy the most about Star Trek is the effort they take to get the science as right as possible. High fives to Dr. Erin Macdonald from me on this one.
Star Trek: Prodigy 2×19 “Ouroboros, Part 1” also has fantastic musical cues from Nami Melumad. Nami absolutely outdoes herself in this episode. The space battle themes in particular are very compelling and honestly, gave me goosebumps. The score truly enhanced what was happening on screen, heightening the emotion and excitement of the episode.

Final Thoughts
Star Trek: Prodigy 2×19 “Ouroboros, Part 1” sets up the season finale well. While we’ve conquered Ascencia’s forces through the power of our collective will, we still have the Loom to contend with. The Loom gives me the creeps and they make for an excellent foe for our cadets. Can we get the Protostar back in place? We’ve got one more episode to go, so stay tuned here to find out.
