Mixed Feelings in Outlander season 7 episode 13 ‘Hello, Goodbye’

In Outlander season 7 episode 13 ‘Hello, Goodbye’ Jamie and Claire face the consequences of what happened in the previous episode. Claire tries to get Jamie not to blame John for what happened just as he doesn’t blame her. Claire knows that John’s friendship is special to Jamie — and vice versa — and she doesn’t want either of them to miss out on that. But jealousy and the feeling of betrayal are too alive in Jamie’s mind and heart. Especially there, in that bed where it all happened.
While it’s true that part of Jamie hates John and wants to kill him with his own hands, the other part is aware that John doesn’t deserve to die for all this, which is why he’s glad Denzel rescued him. Their friendship will never be the same again but at least Jamie won’t have his death on his conscience.
However, John’s issue isn’t the only thing keeping Jamie on the ropes in Outlander season 7 episode 13 ‘Hello, Goodbye.’ His son’s rejection and contempt are like a knife that never stops twisting in his heart but Claire can see that everything will pass. William isn’t aware but he’s so much like his father…even in character, which is why she knows that William will eventually come around and look for Jamie. He just has to be patient.
As if that wasn’t enough, seeing Jamie in the Continental uniform in Outlander season 7 episode 13 ‘Hello, Goodbye’ makes Claire that much more aware that, once again, they are in the middle of a war and Jamie’s life is on the line. She hates that it’s like this, she hates that they can’t live in peace and with their family safe. But they have to do this, there is no other way…at least this time they are on the winning side.

A Quaker Wedding

Ian and Rachel are now married! And Jamie’s speech was so emotional…Ian grew up and matured before Jamie’s eyes and under his wing. To Jamie, he is like a son and he couldn’t be more proud of the man he has become. In contrast, Denzel’s speech, albeit unintentionally, brings up some of Ian’s insecurities in Outlander season 7 episode 13 ‘Hello, Goodbye.’
Ian is aware that he is a violent man, he has never had any qualms about getting his hands dirty with blood if he felt it necessary to defend his family. But Rachel is a woman of strong pacifist convictions and, somehow, she ended up with him in the middle of a war.
It doesn’t feel fair to her… Ian doesn’t feel like he deserves her. But the point is that it’s Rachel’s decision. She chose him and she chose to be fighting in that war in a way that feels true to herself not only for her brother or the man she loves, but for her own convictions. In Outlander season 7 episode 13 ‘Hello, Goodbye’ she marries a wonderful man and he will give everything in any way to defend his family. And she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Family Reunions…

Going back to 1739, we love how Roger and Buck are closer than ever in Outlander season 7 episode 13 ‘Hello, Goodbye.’ It’s not easy for Roger to feel like he’s not getting to find Jemmy, thinking everything his son might be going through, and at the same time having to deal with his father’s presence right there, at that time, but Buck is there for him, like a rough, silent presence that can be counted on no matter what. These two have come a long way…
The best thing about this is that Roger got the chance to meet his father, to look him in the eyes again, and to learn a part of his story that he would never have imagined. And they finally realized that Jemmy was not there!
The question is: what now?
