Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 19 “Chasing Monsters,” focused on the entire Boston P.D. coming together to find a murderer and stop him before he could hurt anyone else. The episode also showed the emotions and feelings that come with losing a friend and colleague. And while we felt awful for Sean, we did feel more connected to him after watching his journey this week, seeing Danny bond with him, and then try to help.
We review Boston Blue Season 1, Episode 19 below!
Protecting 2172 Members of Boston

We really didn’t know Steve that well, but his death in “Chasing Monsters” affects everyone, especially Sean. We completely understand why Sean felt guilty, but Steve’s death wasn’t his fault. The only person to blame for Steve’s death was the person that murdered him. And, besides, if Sean and Jonah had taken that call instead of Steve and Rachel, there’s a good chance that one of them would have been hurt instead. We’re just not emotionally prepared to handle that.
Honestly, we’re impressed by how the writers handled Sean’s feelings. Guilt and anger are all part of the grieving process, and we got to see those feelings as he worked with Lena and Danny to find Steve’s killer. We were pretty impressed with Danny, too. He’s still getting used to being a father of a cop, but we think he handled this whole situation as well as can be expected. He showed Sean that being angry and breaking the rules isn’t the way to go. If you ever watched Blue Bloods, you know that Danny sometimes had anger management issues. He doesn’t want Sean to have the same problems he had and wants Sean to be better than him. Danny Reagan – you’ve come so far.
We also enjoyed watching Sarah, Lena, Danny, Sean, and Jonah all work together to find out who was trying to take out the entire police force. They all have their own jobs and own ways of doing things – Jonah wanting to be there for Rachel; Sarah going between her boss and Danny and Lena trying to be a peacemaker; and Danny, Lena, and Sean tracking down clues; but it was clear that they had one goal, which was getting justice for Steve and making sure they didn’t lose someone else.
Lena Silver. Your Daughter.

While all of this is going on, Lena’s still struggling with her past in “Chasing Monsters.” And she finally learns the truth about her father.
We’re so glad that truth, the whole truth, is finally out in the open! Lena’s father did know about her and wanted to be part of her life, but Mae thought that would ruin their lives. We understand it’s a complex situation but we’re sorry, but that wasn’t Mae’s place. Lena had the right to make that choice on her own. And we’re glad that she gets the chance now.
Keeping all of that in mind, we have a feeling that this isn’t going to be a happy family reunion once she meets Chris, and her half-sister realizes who Lena is. Will Lena finally meet Chris next week? Will the rest of the Silvers find out what Mae kept from Lena? This has set up a very interesting season finale, and we can’t wait.
Other Thoughts:

- Using Steve’s handcuffs to arrest his murderer was a nice touch. Well done, Danny.
- We’re glad Steve’s widow doesn’t blame Sean for his death. Sean really needed to hear that. Sometimes you just need validation from other people.
- Sarah was completely right in how she handled Rachel’s role in the shooting. Rachel’s reaction was justified in only focusing on saving her partner in that moment. Sarah is always someone we want on our side.
