The Way Home has taken me on a roller coaster ride and I don’t mind that. I love being forced to feel all sorts of emotions by the power of a television. Entertainment changes us as human beings and makes us people who can see hope.
With The Way Home, it’s challenged me to think about family and community, but most of all it taught me that time is precious.
Very precious.
I have to admit that this season I haven’t loved, but I haven’t exactly hated. There’s too many characters that make no sense and I am hoping that we get some resolution as to who they are and why they’re important.
But right now, I don’t care.
CASEY
Now, I love them and yet don’t understand why they are back. I would like to be able to understand more about them. For instance, why she feels safe to tell Sam things that they wouldn’t tell anyone else. It makes absolutely no sense to me.
But I do like that Casey can guide Sam down a road, why can’t she do that for others? Then again, would I want that for myself? No. I wouldn’t want to know anything.
Casey guiding Sam, way back in 2024 and even now. It feels strange to know that Casey and Sam are close when the rest of us can’t figure him out.
Casey does apologie that tehy told sam their futurebut it doesn’t mean that it’s guaranteed – he still has to work towards that future. It’s not guaranteed.
KAT
Kat has made it to 1925 and she is at the Landry farm – at the table with Fern and tTessa. Tehre is a disappointment that Ressa is the ringleader, but it does make sense. There has tobe something that we’ve missed along the way. Tessa ahs her reasons, and what they are im not sure. She’s definitely had to build her life in the past, but her aversion to her son is what worries me.
She doesn’t want to mess up the deal with Al Capone – and who would. She does need to make amends with her son.
Fern never expected that Tessa to be a time traveler, but I mean it does make sense, right? At least it does me. Kat and Fern are a lot alike and I really do love that for Kat. I think so often she’s felt alone and her not – well that is a good thing.
The pond bringing them together was a good thing.
Fern wants someone to rely on and I think that is what a lot of people want. I don’t think that she is the best at articulating things because that would mean being vulnerable and that is hard. I think that Fern has a good heart, but I also think that vulnerability is something she is scared of.
I think that her and Cliff would make a good team, but for that they’d have to both overlook some flaws that they both have. Cliff has a crush on Fern, but he’s cautious because she’s engaged. And it doesn’t matter who she’s engaged to, she is still engaged.
I can appreciate Cliff’s resolute stance, but I think that we all know that he’s willing to make exceptions for fern whenever he can.
FERN
I think that Fern – in any time period – is one of the best parts of this show. Why? Well we don’t ever understand what she’s saying, but we do love that she has something to say. It’s as if she has all of the answers.
Fern tells Kat that the Landry women are cursed when it comes to true love. And honestly – believe it. Then again, I believe that all of the Landry’s are cursed. The pond seems like something that would be a blessing, but it feels like more of a curse.
Fern holds so many secrets and so many answers. What she means by “the key is key” is something that I don’t get though. I am sure that it will unfold, but until then, I will wonder about a lot.
Fern is a mystery.
Then again, all of the Landry’s are.
JACOB AND ABBY
I firmly believe that Jacob deserves to be happy but the actions that he takes are sometimes questionable. Well a lot of the time. He doesn’t know how to balance his life which makes sense because he grew up in a different time period.
Abby Goodwin may be part of a family that I dislike with my entire being – but I am starting to wonder if she’s like the only person that I do like in that family – Max. We all know I want him and Alice to end up together.
The thing about Jacob and Abby Goodwin is – well I think that she challenges him and makes him want to be present and show up for his life and his family. They have a long road ahead and one that I can’t wait to see him on.
I know that the show is almost over, but here we are. I want more and I don’t know how they will tie these storylines up in such a short amount of time.
But I do want Jacob to be happy. I also think that the people his disappearance has affected deserve that too.
ELLIOTT OF IT ALL
Never have we made it a secret that Elliott hasn’t always been a favorite – and this episode made it more obvious to the reasons why. But also I think that Elliott has grown a little on me. That was until he was a hypocrite.
I do believe that Elliott has the best of intentions, but I also know that he’s spent so much time judging Kat. Him deciding to stay behind and not letting Kat know was shady.
That being said it I think that him wanting to be around his Mom is plausible. However, his Mom abandoned him. He didn’t abandon her. But what Tessa does by doing that is she has made her son unable to trust.
Elliott staying behind was his choice. Yes. But it was also wrong, because him and Kat are supposed to be a unit. Their lack of knowing how to communicate felt disingenuous to the characters.
But I have to admit, I was proud of him – heading to the stills to make sure that nothing happened to his Mom and helping them all fulfill the order of alcohol.
What does get me though is that Elliott knew that at some point he’s got to accept that his Mom abandoned him. He’s gotta accept that he needs to move on.
CLIFF AND FERN
Cliff is a shady, shady man, but also love him so I will forgive that.
He’s lied and said that he was leaving town to accept an award. So Fern, she thought that the job would go down without an issue. But, the issue is that Clint doesn’t know that Fern is involved, so finding out that she is was a lot for him.
That being said though, I do understand why he lied. He claims it was to protect Fern, but I wonder why. He’s a diehard on getting to the bottom of a case, so I was surprised that he let her, as well as Tessa, Kat, and Elliott run.
Fern confessing her love to Cliff, was sweet, but I still can’t judge on if she’s being truthful or if it was that she’s being shady and telling him what it is that he wants to hear. I do hope that these two work out because I believe that Fern should have a happy ending.
ALICE
I don’t believe that Alice should put off school at all, but I do think that it will do her some good. Her life has been defined by the pond over the past few years and letting go of it will be hard. Especially with all that is happening right now and the answers that she needs.
Alice is young, but she’s lived so many lives.
The way that she interprets things – I get that it may not be what is intended, but perception is important.
The Landry women need to figure out their paths, but the pond is what decides it for them. Staying in Port Haven will derail her life for a bit, but then again, it may help her find her way. Life is strange, but whatever path that it takes you on, it’s a way that you need to go.
Alice knows what she is doing, even when she doesn’t know. But whatever happens will happen.
I am not sure of what I expected or am about to expect because the ending is so close. But I will be invested and crying my way through everything.
