One of our favorite book series is The Chronicles of Narnia. There is is something about the series that entranced us and it was the first series that we actively reread. Seeing it come to life is something that we have always been excited over.
Especially with Greta Gerwig at the helm of the latest one, Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. We’re at the edge of our seats, waiting to see how she brings it to life.
If you aren’t familiar with Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, “London children “Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer use magical rings from Digory’s eccentric Uncle Andrew to travel between worlds, accidentally awakening the evil Queen Jadis in the dying world of Charn and bringing her into the void where the great lion Aslan sings the new world of Narnia into existence. Digory then undertakes a quest for a magical apple to protect this newborn land from Jadis’s evil, ultimately resisting temptation and earning an apple from Aslan that heals his dying mother back in England, with the core of that apple eventually growing into the tree whose wood creates the famous wardrobe.”
As we grow closer to the release in February of 2027, we’re getting more information about the movie and we’re learning why Greta Gerwig chose Meryl Streep as the voice of Aslan.
“I wanted someone who was profound but not pretentious, who had gravitas but not morose self-seriousness,” Gerwig said to Empire of casting Aslan. “Someone who could communicate depth and pathos as well as joy and delight.”
Gerwig added, “I wanted someone who was older than 70, so there was a wisdom of experience, but who also had the capacity of fresh wonder, like a child. And also to be one of the greatest actors to ever do it. That list is not a long one.”
Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew has an amazing cast – David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell, Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Ciarán Hinds, Daniel Craig, and Meryl Streep.
The movie is in theaters worldwide February 12, 2027 and begins streaming on Netflix April 2, 2027.
