Who says superheroes only exist on The CW?
Following FOX’s ridiculously stupid move to cancel Brooklyn 99, a smart and diverse comedy that television needs more of, NBC swooped in late Friday night to save the show from cancellation.
Brooklyn 99 will return for a 13-episode sixth season, which is expected to air in early 2019.
FOX cancelled Brooklyn 99 on Thursday, as well as another fan-favorite Lucifer, much to the distaste and vocal outrage from fans in favor of reviving the worthless Tim Allen comedy Last Man Standing. It didn’t take long for NBC to make a move.
After a day that will forever be known as Bloody Friday, where network television cancelled 20 shows within 24 hours, NBC provided a true feel-good moment that has social media abuzz with gratitude, excitement, and downright fangirling.
In a move that is reminiscent of last year when NBC cancelled Timeless, another smart and inclusive show that television needs, Brooklyn 99‘s vocal and passionate fanbase convinced NBC to bring it back much like Timeless‘ vocal fandom brought Timeless back just three days after it had been cancelled.
“Ever since we sold this show to Fox I’ve regretted letting it get away, and it’s high time it came back to its rightful home,” said NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt in a statement. “Mike Schur, Dan Goor, and Andy Samberg grew up on NBC and we’re all thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest, and best cast comedies in a long time will take its place in our comedy line-up. I speak for everyone at NBC, here’s to the Nine-Nine!”
Now the only question left is this: When are you going to save Timeless again, NBC?
