Bringing into an era of change, the pride month is being celebrated world over with pompous joy and excitement. The LGBTQ+ community, if not still accepted at some places, has managed the success of making its existence known and is marching on to conquer the whole world. It won’t be long before bisexuality would be looked down upon and would be accepted as a way of life.
Fandoms however, have long been supporting LGBTQ+ community since time unknown by creating non-canon ships. Here are some most popular LGBTQ+ ships of The Harry Potter Series who are just so adorable that you can’t help but wonder why they weren’t a reality.
P.s I’ve also got you covered on some of their FanFics if you’re interested to find out how these relationships would work. Thank me later 😉
1. Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald (Dumblewald or Grindledore)

Even though not explicitly stated in the books, this ship may not be a non-canon and J.K Rowling confirmed it – Albus Dumbledore was homosexual. Introduced to Gellert Grindelwald by Grindelwald’s great aunt Bathilda Bagshot when he was seventeen, Dumbledore had deeper emotions for him, a little more than that of a friend. However, his love was unrequited and with Grindelwald going to the dark side he had to make a difficult decision between him or his sister, Ariana. A sad tragedy for Dumbledore, he lost both but that didn’t stop the fans in shipping them together.
Rumors of Dumbledore’s sexuality being addressed in Fantastic Beast And Where To Find Them 2: The Crimes of Grindelwald were shunned down as the director issued a statement in denial. After several angry tweets and messages however, J.K Rowling has hinted a possibility of the issue being addressed in the latter parts though, so there’s still hope to cling on!
FanFic Corner: Here’s a short FanFic of Dumblewald written by noeru K on Fanfiction.net of how they met and their friendship. The story is titled The Pheonix Patronus.
2. Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter (Drarry)

Don’t tell me you haven’t heard of the idea of them being together. If not, I seriously doubt whether you are a Potterhead or not. The most popular ship in the Harry Potter Series, this pairing is accepted even more than the canon ship of Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley.
Draco and Harry have had their differences throughout the series, but don’t most of our favourite ships start that way? From enemies to lovers, even a non LGBTQ+ supporter can’t help but go aww at the possibility of them together. Just imagine, if they had been together how much more fun it would’ve been to watch Harry talk his boyfriend into leaving the Death Eaters and destroy together all the Horcruxes and ultimately, Lord Voldemort? Also, have I mentioned that this ship has some of the most creative followers? I mean, just look at the fanart!

Fanfic Corner: Check out the Wattpad Book by @Clevermess for several Drarry One Shots. There are thousands of FanFics of this pair, so be sure to tell us you favorite ones!
3. Dean Thomas and Seamus Finnigan (Deamus)

Although there is no whereabouts of both of them after the Battle of Hogwarts, fans have been popularizing the theory that the best friends, Dean and Seamus, realized their feelings towards each other and are now together.
They had been best friends since the start of the series and although Dean’s sexuality was confirmed when he briefly dated Ginny Weasley, fans can’t help but wonder that he ultimately found love with Seamus.
FanFic Corner: Here’s a Deamus One Shot titled Perfect by Meowshmallowx and let me tell you, it is indeed a perfect ending.
4. Severus Snape and Harry Potter (Snarry)

My first reaction when I heard of this shop was shock. Severus Snape is being shipped with Harry Potter, a person he loathed and not to mention, was way younger than him. But, as the saying goes, love is blind. Their should be no restrictions on love and the fans have made sure that there won’t be any.
With more shippers than I thought of, Snape and Harry have been shipped together a lot and are right up the popular ship’s lane. This ship, however, would’ve given an even more depth to Snape’s character (if there wasn’t enough already) and the story a more interesting twist. Unable to find love in Lily, he found it in her son whom he despised because of the Potter genes that flowed through him. With two boxes of tissues ready, this twist would’ve made the story a bit more tragic, and fans would’ve lost it.
FanFic Corner: Snarry shippers are mostly into writing longs fanfics for this ship or some mature one shots, so I decided to go with the former and include a Fanfic titled ‘Master Plan‘ by StarryGazer from Fanfiction.net. It’s thirty-six chapters long, but worth reading if you’re a Snarry shipper.
5) Remus Lupin and Sirius Black (Wolfstar)

Nymphadora Tonks and Remus Lupin make a cute pair but the Sirius Black and Lupin would’ve made an even cuter one. Protecting his friend who is being pegged for murder, the romantic twist would’ve been a nice addition to the story. And moreover, who doesn’t love a bit more of tragic?
Fanfic Corner: I highly recommend the oneshot titled!’ ‘Remus Is Gay!’ by Scarlett Rogue on Fanfiction.net. Short and sweet, this two minute read is fun filled and gives you a glance into the world of Wolfstar. While you’re at it, you can also check out Mystery Man by JuliaKerns5 on Fanfiction.net for a sneak peek into the lives of the Marauders as Lupin tries to figure out who is anonymously sending him Christmas gifts since the start of the month.
6. Ginny Weasley and Luna Lovegood (Linny)

Let’s face it, there are a majority of people out there who don’t like the fact that Harry ended up Ginny. A shy annoying sister of his best friend, she suddenly turned out to be the brave girl who also plays Quidditch. There was no story build up for her as such and thus the amount of people against this canon. This however explains the fact of why Harry is shipped with every character in the series, except her.
Though Luna Lovegood is most often shipped with Neville Longbottom, the possibility of this ship is slowly taking a popular opinion too. Ginny’s less adored qualities being rectified while she realizes her feelings for the quirky and weird Luna, this ship makes a lot more sense to people than that of Harry and Ginny.
FanFic Corner: Here’s a beautifully written one shot by RichardGanseyIII titled A Soft Victory on Archive Of Our Own. Feeling a bit generous, I have for you an excerpt from the one minute read titled What’s Under The Surface by flockofpidge which has the perfect amount of Luna quirkiness –
It was fuzzy, Ginny knew, she wasn’t sure how this happened. A silly crush, mutual confession, a first brush of the lips and then warmth blooming in her stomach. The days she spent with Luna were like none other; she was Ginny’s whole world.
“I love you.” She blurted.
Her face immediately heated, a blush crawling up her neck all the way to the tips of her ears. Luna didn’t even turn around, she just continued snipping at her flower stems. Ginny just gazed worriedly at her back, the light from the window casting patterned shadows across the gauzy dress she was wearing. When Luna finally turned, her eyes were twinkling. She swayed back over to Ginny, leaning over her and tilting her face up with a delicate hand under the chin, cool in contrast to the heated skin of Ginny’s face, tucking the flower in the hair behind her ear.
“Do you like yellow tulips?” was all Luna said.
Ginny sighed. “I guess.”
There was no understanding Luna, her airy ways made no sense, but it was one of the reasons Ginny fell in love with her in the first place. She would say it back when she was comfortable.
“Oh good,” Luna exclaims, “yellow tulips are perfect for us, they symbolize being hopelessly in love.”
She stooped to kiss Ginny’s newly-reddened cheeks before flouncing off to rearrange her knick knacks, leaving Ginny shocked on the floor, clutching the carpet, mouth open.
7. Ginny Weasley and Hermione Granger (Herminny)

Lastly, how can we forget Hermione Granger being shipped with one of the only female friends she has. The pair of smart and brave is deemed to be perfect by the Herminny shippers and though this ship may not be as popular as the others, it is one strong pair supporting the LGBTQ+ community.
FanFic Corner: Here’s an excerpt from a one shot titled True Blue by storyplease from Archive Of Our Own:
“You’re incorrigible!” Hermione replied, trying to hold back a giggle and failing miserably.
“That is why you married me, is it not?” Ginny replied with a smirk.
“Well, I sure as heck didn’t marry you for the season tickets to Quidditch,” Hermione replied impishly.
“Oi! Don’t you bring Quidditch into this!” Ginny replied in a mock-defensive voice. “If we get out of this, I—”
“When!” Hermione interrupted.
“What?” Ginny raised an eyebrow.
“When we get out of this. Not if. Please don’t say if...I don’t think my heart could take it…” Hermione trailed off, her lower lip quivering.
“Oh sweetheart, no. No, no, no. That’s not what I meant at all!” Ginny said in her most reassuring voice.
“This is really all my fault, though,” Hermione said huffily. “You’d have been better off without me.”
“Well, too bad,” Ginny replied with a haughty sniff. “I choose the bottom of the sea with Hermione Granger, the lovely witch who has stolen my heart and allowed me to finally shed my odious surname over any other choice that might be offered to me.”
“Oh?” Hermione said, raising her eyebrow at this. “I knew it! You only married me for my last name, didn’t you?”
With several other ships like Voldemort/Snape, James/Sirius, Dumbledore/Hagrid and Lavender/Parvati, the LGBTQ+ community is going strong in the Harry Potter series. And as the popular line that’s making it’s rounds this month goes ‘One thing that Harry Potter has taught us is that nobody deserves to live in a closet’.
Once out of the closet, it’s up-to us whether we force Harry back in his closet or let him explore the wonders of the Wizarding world.
I would just like to say Snarry is not a Harry Potter ship to be proud of. It is toxic and there is an uncomfortable power dynamic due to the student/teacher aspect.
