Friends and Fangirls, I am a big fan of Romance books, but I never read them. They tend to be too quick of reads for me to want to spend money on them, so my cheap ass says nah. But when my friend Sam offered to loan me a big stack of books that included Alisha Rai’s The Right Swipe, I jumped at the chance.
The Right Swipe follows Rhiannon Hunter, an app creator with a controversial past. While at a dating app conference, she learns that the last man she slept with is now the face of the Matchmaker, a company she wants to buy. Rhiannon has to juggle her feelings; is it worth pursuing the company, if she was ghosted by the man?
Oh my gosh, this was exactly what it sounds like: beautiful, sexy, fluff! While I really enjoy deep, emotionally exhausting books, sometimes we all need some fluff. And this was precisely that! The Right Swipe mixes sex with business, in more ways than one.
A huge plus of this book was that both of the main characters are people of color. They’re described with grace, and tact; I don’t think there was a single “chocolate skin” statement in the book, which is pretty dang huge. I think a big part of that comes from the fact that Rai, the author, is a woman of color herself. Read more by authors of color 2020!
If you’re looking for a fun read to turn your brain off (and turn ya body on) with, this is the one. I had such a good time reading The Right Swipe, and I’m sure you will to! As someone currently navigating the world of online dating / swiping, there was a lot that I could relate to in this. I think it’s a fun read, and well worth checking out.
You can grab your own copy on Amazon, and follow Alisha Rai on Twitter. Also, check out the other pieces I’ve written for Fangirlish here!
